When I had a bass boat and striper fished I used threaded stock and a coupling to raise the holder so I didn't fall out of the boat bending over to get the rod.
Now I have the rod holder mounts on the rail of the toon. To crappie fish I added a piece of angle with holes drilled in it then welded nuts underneath. I can screw rod holders into the nuts and have a hand full of rods without more holes in the rail
