    Default Lake Murray/winter/striper fishing

I have not fished for stripers on Murray past September. Recently I was offered the use of a house on Murray for a fishing trip. Since I don't know where the stripers are in say November, December, and January I thought I might ask for some information from guys who fish for stripers year round. The house is located couple miles above Dreher Island.....any information on late season striper fishing would be appreciated......

I'm no striper fisherman per say, but I can tell you that the striper are located up the lake in the winter months. I would say by December and January you can concentrate your efforts from around the split in the rivers on up each river. Chasing birds and bait will produce as well as pulling boards. Last year there was some good fishing from Big Man's bridge to the mouth of Cloud's Creek in the Little River around the first of the year. Hope you get on them.

And it sounds like the house you have access to is in a great location for winter time stripes.
Hooking up every chance I get!

The fish in the winter will be from Dreher state park all the way up the rivers. They will be shallow and deep. A lot of fishermen chase schools following the birds throwing umbrella rigs. If you live bait fish the free lines and planner boards will be the choice following the shoreline. From the river split up the little river as for as you can go is a good place to look for them. The area from clouds creek to Boy Scout camp stays hot most of the time. Just ride up the rivers and watch the other fishermen and see if you want to join the madhouse chasing schools.

Nov-Jan is when we fish for the Stripers on Murray and we fish from Just above Dreher Island on up both rivers.
We cast to the schooling fish and use shiners on down rods when we locate tight schools. Herring is better live bait but we can keep the unused shiners for a month or so to use on our next trips.
You will be hitting them at the perfect time for this area ! Good luck.

Steve, you can catch em trolling in December around the Big Mans landing/bridge,with the ol spoonbill I know. The Grandma lures would probably get em also but I haven't ever trolled them. A lot of times the fish I've cleaned have tiny /small baitfish in them,so if you have any A-rigs with smaller jigs on them,I'd bet they'd work also. You just have to watch the depth finder a little closer than you would out on the main lake.also a few more school chasers up there at times to deal with too
    HEY,,WATCH THAT YELLOW ROD
