Here's more info on the Oct 3rd Wounded Warrior fishing trip, They still need folks willing to take a Vet fishing. I'm taking my boat, please join us for a day of fun fishing.
Hello Host Boaters,

First of all, on behalf of Operation North State, our supporters and the wounded warriors and disabled veterans you will be taking out on the lake, thanks for making this day possible – without your participation the Jordan Lake Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival doesn’t happen. It’s going to be a great day and we will catch some fish too. The wounded warriors and disabled veterans are so excited. We haven’t hosted a Festival since June 5 and they can’t wait to get back on the water. We have 46 boaters confirmed; we need 4 more. Please help bring these boaters in over the next few days. Fourteen boaters are currently confirmed to fish for crappie and the rest are bassmasters . FYI: we are using the set of ramps to the right.

For the bass boaters and most of the crappie boaters, it will be one wounded warrior or disabled veteran on each boat. A few (4-5) of the wounded warriors and disabled veterans may require a caregiver. We have one person so far that will be in a wheelchair. We have a large boat registered that will take care of this individual plus he (Will Stewart) has a great caregiver to assist. On some of the larger crappie boats, we will probably add an extra person. We currently have 55 wounded warriors signed up; a few of them always have to drop out the day of the Festival due to medical issues; I still expect we will have 51-52 guest fishermen. Any extras will be placed on the crappie boats; they have extra room. We will have several females fishing too. Almost all (if not all) of the wounded warriors and disabled veterans can fish – they don’t require much of your time. You just need to get them started and provide tips and pointers throughout the day.

We would like to have you on the water and tied up or floating no later than 7AM. Most of you are usually are on the water for club tournaments by 6:30 AM anyway. We will start registration as early as 6:30 AM for the early-birds. When you register, you will be given a name tag with a number on it. We will help you get paired up with your wounded warrior or disabled veteran who also has a number on his/her name tag. We will provide you a 12” x 18” US Flag that we ask you to display on your boat. You will also receive a t-shirt.

As for food, we will have snacks available for you to take on the boat. Feel free to bring your own. We provide fruit (no bananas), honeybuns, sodas and bottled water – NO ALCOHOL. We have a light breakfast snack of sausage biscuits, doughnuts, honeybuns, coffee and orange juice for the registration. As for our dinner, it will be a nice dinner served at Bells Baptist Church. The main meal will be BBQ, side dishes and lots of covered dishes. The dinner is awesome and it’s a great chance to get to know Operation North State and the wounded warriors/disabled veterans a lot better. They love the dinner and awards! We start serving dinner at 4PM and will be finished by 5PM. There is enough parking for all the boats at the church; we will have folks directing the parking of the boats at the church.

The Festival is all about these Special Americans. We will have trophies for them: largest crappie, largest crappie bag, largest bass and largest bass bag. We will bag (weigh-in) 5 bass and the crappie guys will bag 7 fish.

We will start announcements at 7:45 AM and have a soft launch at 8. Then, fish until the 3:00 PM weigh-in. Operation North State and volunteers will be at the ramp all day if you need to come in for snacks, to rest or take a bathroom break (we will have two port-a-johns) at the ramp. We will also have runner-boats on the lake delivering snacks.

We are fishing rain or shine. If rain is predicted, please bring some extra towels and extra rain gear – their gear usually isn’t very waterproof. You will be providing life vests, rods and reels (spinning reels work best) and tackle. We want you to fish hard too. Your fish are their fish and count toward their prizes. They want to see fish come in the boat. Show them a great time. AND, AT ALL TIMES, THEY MUST, MUST, MUST WEAR THEIR LIFE VESTS. We need you to make this happen. They may want to keep some crappie – ask them. We aren’t harvesting any bass – they all go back in.

As for a few needs. We have some door prizes but can always use more. Anything fishing-related and gift cards make great door prizes but we will take anything. At the other Festivals, we have been providing all the wounded warriors and disabled veterans $50 gift cards; we don’t yet have that sponsor on board for the Jordan Lake Festival to help cover the cost. We do have 17 $50 gift cards and some more will come in. Plus, we will purchase others as we receive cash donations. All the food and t-shirts are funded already. We do need to find 2 port-a-johns for the ramp. Let us know if you know someone. These have always been donated at other Festivals but so far, we don’t have a donation and the price tag is $220 a day to deliver a single unit to the ramp. Let us know if you know someone that can assist.

Folks, the Festival is grassroots support at its best. This is around a $25,000 day at retail and made possible by your support as host boaters and the assistance of dozens of supporters. It only takes around $4,500 in actual cash to fund the Festival (insurance, t-shirts, food and gift cards). We almost have all our cash raised but need a little more to help with the gift cards.

We hope this update helps. I’ll keep you posted every 2-3 days with additional updates between now and the day of the Festival (Saturday, October 3). Call if you have questions, or can help locate one of our remaining 4 boaters or have located a supporter or two.
