It's been a while since I've posted a report! Life has been too busy for fishing the last few months. My boat has been sitting in the yard since June...the longest dry spell it's seen since I've owned it! I had started feeling bad for her LOL

As busy as things have been, they have been going great. Our little girl turned 8 weeks old last Thursday and she is growing like a weed! In no time I'll have to buy Ms. Raelyn her very own jig pole.

With the wife and baby headed to the upstate to visit family and enjoy Labor Day festivities, I decided to try my luck with the crappie this morning. Getting back on the water was a great feeling. My Dad joined me and we hit the water a little before 8 AM. Overcast and cloudy conditions made it tough for us but we were able to boat some fish. Single pole jigging was the technique and we were targeting brush and woody cover in 4-20 FOW.

When fishing these "snags" I've always found the fishing to be better when the sun is high. I feel like it concentrates the fish to the shade I'm targeting. We probably caught 20-25 fish by 1 PM but we struggled to find quality fish. The fish seemed to be in a lull for whatever reason. Most of the spots we fished held fish, but they wouldn't take the bait. We tried a number of things but nothing seemed to make much of a difference. The fish were mouthing the bait and short striking. We did bring home a mess for a meal and managed to catch a couple respectable fish. The fish preferred a yellow Rooty Tooty today and it accounted for 95% of the fish we boated. My Dad even caught a white fish. We don't catch many on Murray...maybe 1 a year if we are lucky, but it's nice to know there's still a few around.

Even though we didn't wear them out with both had a great time on the water together. And it was nice to be able to find a few fish after such a long break.

Pics to come...
