Not sure of the reason, might be the low water conditions, or a sign we are in store for a early fall/winter but the bait can be seen everywhere schooling on top. Bass fisherman are enjoy a good shallow bite as well, along with a good bit of schooling activity present. The deep brush bite has dried up nearly completely other than some smallish white crappie.

Ink, around my parts the fish seem to be hanging right under the bait around 8'-10' deep. They can be found in water from 10' deep to 22' but all are hanging around that same depth. And the schools of shad are everywhere on top now and some dead (or almost dead) shad are on/fluttering on top. The garfish are plentiful right now too. Some catfish are also hanging under the shad balls as Ive been catching a few (1-2 lbers and loosing some bigger ones) on jigs almost every trip now. Find the bait and you find the fish!

Mother Nature is trying to tell all of us something, and we better listen very carefully. The last time I saw the crappie go back to shallow water this early was the year Hugo came to visit. Not saying this going to happen but who Knows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put in at Harry's today and tried to find some decent water level. Low. Where are you putting in?

I fished today with my buddy Tommy, we bagged a couple of limits of beautiful crappie fishing on the upper end of Marion. We put in at Poplar Creek landing, but all ramps are still open. The water is getting quite low, and care must be taken to avoid stumps and shallow water in areas that you normally don't have to worry about such things. If some significant rain fall doesn't occur soon I fully expect ramp closings to start showing up.
