Better luck next time around, stay with them, you'll track'em down. As far as the bait goes, summer time is tough on the bait men. Folks aren't fishing as much, so the stores aren't selling as many which leads to old bait being sold. Hot water temps, kills the bait quickly if the bait hasn't been climatized to it.

The lake hartwell outdoor center is the new one I think your talking about. It was the bait shop before they moved beside garrets. They worked good for me last weekend.

I would imagine the biggest problem during the summer months is the same as during the cold winter months....finding the fish. When I nightstalked I spent about an hour each trip I went night fishing on before it got dark "scouting" different areas close to where my planned nightstalk was gonna be looking for a better place for my next stalk. On my graph I was looking in waters 20'-35' deep on flats and was wanting to find some bait and seeing plenty of arches on the graph while idling around a cove was what I really liked seeing. If I found a good looking spot (to me) then that would be my next stalk which would be soon (hopefully). And before that stalk I'd be spending another hour or hour and a half riding and checking out potentially new spots again. Once I had made my mind up on where I was going I never moved either. I'd anchor right before dark and let the lights work for me. The way I figured it is that most times it'd take close to an hour for the minnows to gather and the first fish to show up. If I moved somewhere else during the night then it would take another hour or so once anchored again for the minnows and fish to find the light again...so forth and so on. I have been on stalks where the fish wasnt doing anything and I was considering calling it a night around 10-10:30PM and then it would turn on. Had I moved or left then I wouldnt have caught anything. Anyway, that's how I looked at it. There's always nights that the fish just dont cooperate but if you do your "homework" then you'll catch 'em more than you wont. Stick with it and do your homework. It'll get better for sure. And above all...enjoy all your trips. it's just great having the opportunity of being out there and enjoying what God has blessed us with. The fish is just icing on the cake.
