    Default Anyone used Barry Pritchard?

We are taking a family vacation to Charleston this September. Instead of going out to sea and doing a little fishing, we thought about going inland and doing some crappie fishing.

So to my questions. Has anyone used Barry Pritchard for crappie fishing? Was he good or bad? Is there someone else you'd recommend more?

We are from Missouri. I'd really like to not drive that far and take a day out of our trip and spend all that money to have a bad time. So any insight you guys can provide would be much appreciated.

I'm not familiar with Pritchard guide service, so I can not pass judgement on them. I can recommend a couple of others for you to check out. Both have proven track records, and will put you on the fish weather permitting. Kevin Davis, out of Blacks Camp, who is also the host of Santee Sportsmen television show fishes lake Moultrie. You'll be fishing open water, deep brush. Lake Moultrie is home to some giant crappie if they are biting. You can check him out on YouTube. My other recommendation would be Barney Ulmer of Santee Pro Guide Service. He fishes the bigger lake, Marion. Both lakes are joined by the diversion canal. You will again be fishing brush located in the dead forest. A large vast of standing timber left behind when the lake was filled in the 40's. Check him out on his web page. The fish are biting as my post show, but I don't guide. Here's a sample of what you might catch.

You may wish to wrestle with some of the lakes monster catfish. Here's one that came up near my boat yesterday while I was catching those crappie above.

Inkdabber...thanks for the response. I checked them both out. Blacks camps website says they are for sale. So I'm not sure how that would work. Barney Ulmer looks like he does a great job. I will definitely contact him.

By the way....you got some nice crappie too.

Don't the sale of Blacks camp deter you from checking out Kevin Davis. He's a guide out of Blacks, not affiliated with Blacks itself.

Oh I see. I'll try and look up Kevin himself then. Thanks.

Update. I called Barney the Santee Pro Guide. Seemed like a nice guy. Very helpful. I went ahead and booked him. Kevin would have been good to. Just couldn't seem to justify the extra $100 for him. Thanks for your help inkdabber. I can't wait for the trip.
