Your thumping stick must be out of calibration

I am an owner of the hydrowave and can say that it does what it says it will do. It draws the bait to your location. I use mine primarily for night fishing. I have run my own set of experiments and noted that the bait comes in thicker and gravitate towards the speaker. As for turning the crappie on I can't say for sho. Some nights have been good and some have been bad on the catching. Just depends on the fish. It is another tool in my arsenal. It get more bait around you at a faster pace. All this action draws the predator fish to you. I recently changed boats and did not have the speaker connected to the boat my last 2 night trips. Had two bad trip. Headed out this weekend with it speaker. Will give an update then.
