Thanks for the report. Sounds like you had a good time catching the perch.![]()
I was also hoping to fish this morning after a doctors appointment @9 but the rains came before hand.

Got out at daylight this morning for a little while. Planned on fishing for cats but bite was too slow. Went down to the mouth of Big Allison & marked a large school of fish. Using cut herrin for bait, I caught 18 perch in no time. Perch were taking the bait off before it would hit the bottom. Trip cut short by thunder & lightening. Just got boat loaded up when the rain started falling hard.
Most of the perch were good size.

Good report Charles. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your catch.![]()
What depth did you find the perch? I have not been perch fishing in few weeks so I've lost touch with where they are hanging out. Glad you found some activity after the cats were sleeping.

Boat was swinging around so depth was 24 to about 27'. This was the largest school I have been over in couple of week. Most were caught about 12" off the bottom. Probally could have filled up the cooler if the weather would have stayed calm. The cut herrin was too soft, the perch would bite it off before I got my line tight.
A few weeks back I was at Wateree with Uncle Remus and we were running low on minnows. I had bought some of the Crappie Gnats from Donald (a site sponsor) and had not really had a chance to try them. I had some tied up 2 to a rig about a foot apart with a weight a foot below.
I dropped one of these in the water and it was game on!! We were catching two at the time as fast as you could get it in the water. A spoon, like the Berry's Flex-it Spoon would have worked also, but this was as simple as you could get.
They were designed to be fished with a minnow but the perch hit them as is.

Glad the perch were able to save the day for you, there hasn't been any shortage of rain the last couple of days, but on a side note, we've been needing it.
