Default A couple of fine days on Santee and a Memorial Day Memory

I fished both Thursday and Friday this past week with decent results. Tommy and I fished together on Friday, on Thursday, I had the pleasure to share my boat with my Uncle Ronnie. He and I share a special bond. He's my dads youngest brother, and sole surviving sibling. He's a 72 years old, retired 28 year military man, well decorated after serving two stints in Vietnam ,the Panamanian conflict, along with tours in Korea as well. Over the years he has shared many of his experiences with me, the horrors of war, the death, destruction, and the camaraderie with your fellow soldiers in your platoon. The closeness shared is like no other he stated, when knowing the man next to you will place his life on the line for you, as you will for him. My Uncle has been fighting a different battle the last couple of years, he has Parkinson's disease. He's been on medication that slows is tremors, but the effects of the medicines are not working as they once did. He understands that his life will be getting more complicated in the very near future. I thought it a honor that he asked to fish with me one more time in the event he's unable to fish in the future. I wanted to share this with you guys as a fitting tribute to a man I love and respect on this Memorial weekend. On to the fishing, both days were spent one pole jigging brush and logs. The bite was off from the last couple of weeks, with many small fish being culled through to get a decent couple of limits. Most fish were caught in 7 to 12 feet of water, with water temps starting in the high 70's in the morning, to mid 80's by mid afternoon. Rooty Tooty 309's were the baits of choice, with white, dragon fly, and pink and chartreuse being the best colors.

Thanks for sharing. Especially meaningful on this Holiday to take your Uncle who served our country for so many years. Please thank him for his service for me. Glad y'all are still on the fish. I hope to get down soon. My Grandkids from Atlanta are coming next week, so I may bring them one day.
