Default Does anyone have Lake Russell Reports?

Been looking for a report but all I saw was Shad kill and everything was bad. Is this true and has it set the crappie back? Went down there last year first time and Loved fishing that Lake. Please help with any info. Thanks

Fished Russell last week it was to windy for my liking tried to long line a little bit. Only caught one crappie but it was a slab about 17 in. And you wouldn't believe how it was caught. My buddy's line got tangled up in the prop and didn't know it.he thought he was hung up and broke off but the boat kept dragging the jig. Well he got tangled up again and I was trying to cut the line off and I seen a line in the water so I pulled it up with my hand and a slab on the end of it.

That fish was meant to be caught. Glad you got one anyway, even if was a bit bizarre.

From the very few reports I'm hearing the fish are staging up and/or on the move to their flats of 15'-20' of water. Lots of fish are getting caught but theyre still pretty much scattered anywhere from the middle of the creeks all the way to close to the backs of the creeks. Longliners are catching fish I know but I cant say about the other methods of fishing as I havent heard any reports about them. Personally, I havent been on Russell this year so I cannot say from personal experience. As far as the shad die off.......IMO it cant do anything but help fishing this year. Instead of easy pickings the fish have to hunt their meals now. And that's a GOOD THING!

Thanks for posting and the replies. I talked to a guy that went to Russell last weekend, March 1st, and only caught one crappie. I am not sure what technique he was using but I have none him to longline in the past. I can't wait to fish Russell on the 22nd. Should be some good fishing.
