Well stump you just deal with it because you sure don't get use to it. We have a generator if needed and our pipes our 36" in the ground with gives you a little peace of mind. If you don't have that you don't sleep much in one of these storms. If we lose heat we got about and hour before it gets to be a dangerous situation. Pipes are in a eight foot high ceiling basement with furnace in it. We have a backup kerosene heater if we need it for a secondary heat that needs no electric to start up with no blower. The heat will gravity feed your pipe chase to the upstairs to keep them from freezing.
