If I had to buy right now and money was not an issue when considering the purchase it would be a Lowrance HDS8. They just discounted the HDS units $200.00. They are either about to release a new line of Lowrance or doing this to compete with the new Humminbirds in price, just guessing. The HDS8 pixels versus screen size is great providing a sharp picture. You have quick keys at the bottom you can program. You have to mount a separate structure scan box, people this can be a blessing in hiding, let me explain. The touch model HDS has the structure scan built into the unit itself. Say after 2 years your touch model goes out the unit is now out of warranty. Lowrance does not repair them and you are out your money for the whole unit. With a push button model, it could be the structure box torn up or the unit itself and according to which model you have a $600.00 replacement plug and play and you are back going not having to eat the whole unit. Any time you integrate everything in one package there is no plug and play. These new Humminbirds are nice units. I tell anyone go to Bass Pro or Cabelas and play with the demos to see what you like, that is what counts that you are satisfied, been playing with them at Bass Pro myself. Very user friendly and responsive.

I have had both units and had good results with both. I loved my HB 997 and now have a HDS 7 and am liking it so far as well.
