    Default A Few Fishing Reports

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year!

I had last week off from work and in between spending time with family and friends and eating WAY too much delicious food, I found my way to the water a few times!

I kicked off the week last Monday, 12/23/13. I was debating on saving some leave and heading to work with the weather forecast looking pretty dreary, but I couldn't help myself. I broke out the rain gear and off to the lake I went with the boat in tow. The rain was pretty consistent until the early afternoon and fishing seemed to follow suit. It never got fast and furious, but I was able to beat out a limit of nice fish by mid afternoon. The best method proved to be single pole jigging around structure and a 1/32 black/chart. jig tipped with a minnow was the best bait. Fish were caught 10-14 foot deep in 12-20 FOW. Late Monday evening I witnessed I nice sunset after the rain front had passed!

My dad joined me Tuesday morning and, as we expected, the bite was off. The temperature had plummeted 20+ degrees, the mud had made its way into the lake, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We fished our tails off and called off the hunt shortly before high noon. We wound up with 5 nice fish that we gave to a couple fellas fishing off the bank at the landing. They were glad to get them and I was glad not to have to clean them with my cooler full from Monday.

Thursday morning me and my dad joined a good friend for some perch jerking on Lake Monticello. We bumped spoons on humps and caught a lot of fish. We didn't keep count, but I know our total catch had to be in the neighborhood of 150+. We brought home 37 perch, a bass, and a catfish for the frying pan! Wednesday night I was looking through some old tackle at my Mom's store trying to find a few extra spoons when I stumbled on the motherload of old Rooty Tooty 309s!!!! What a great Christmas Present! They found a new home in my tackle box

Hopefully the rain will ease off and let the mud settle out of the lakes soon. I believe things could be about to bust wide open!!!
Hooking up every chance I get!

Nice fishing Derrick. Those old RT309s might be more valuable as antiques. Been a while since I've seen them. Mr. Cromer has some in his tackle box. Of course Inkdabber and RT309 have the inside track on them.
My first trip for White Perch was to Monticello. We went years ago in Feb and fished a hump in 35 FOW. Course now Murray has a zillion of them.
Where is your Mom' store?? Sounds like good place to browse.

Thanks for all the responses. Most ofof those RT309s will probably never see the water. I plan on using a pack or two of the colors I have the most of, but most will be put up for safe keeping.

Ray, my mom and aunt own and run Sligh's Superette on SC 391 in Prosperity. They don't have much fishing tackle but they do have a non ethanol gas and plenty of groceries. And they have some good food in the way of hotdogs, pizza, wings, Philly cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches, ect...
