Default Clark Hill campgrounds closed for 2014

I noticed a sign at the hester bottoms ramp the other day that the ramp would remain open thru 2014 with reduced services???. The trash cans were removed The bathrooms were padlocked and the deposit box for ramp fees were covered in black plastic. Also the sign was asking for volunteers to help keep the area clean. A few days later at the Leroys Ferry ramp I saw as sign that said that campground would be closed for 2014. I got on the Corps web site that said the Mt Carmel, Leroys Ferry and Hesters Ferry Campground would not open in 2014 due to bubget cuts. Our Federal Govt strikes again.

Several day use areas around Lake Hartwell are also closing. Two I remember are Fair Play and Lawrence Bridge, both of which I have occasionally used. I'm afraid we are only a couple years away from a Federal Gov collapse anyway....been printing money way too long. Make preps. Our state parks and boat ramps will never be what they were in the past.

All of this was posted last fall on the DNR website when even more cuts were made to DNR. I hope the boat ramps at all these places are open though.

I also heard that the Feds are closing down a couple fish hatcheries that supply SC. We are about to lose about 1 million redbreast, 1 million striper, and trout production.

SCDNR runs the trout hatchery above Walhalla, we bought it from the feds a few years back. Hate to see the redbreast and striper being reduced.

I was thinking of going to Clark Hill Friday. Planned to fish the Fishing Creek and maybe Pistol Creek areas. Mt Carmel looked like the closest one to me from Lexington, but it is closed it seems. What would be an alternative ramp?

The ramp at mt carmel is open. But we had over 5 inches of rain sun night. The creeks are getting muddy in a hurry. I was in fishing creek yesterday and caught a lot of fish. Went today and noticed the muddy water was coming down the creek It is muddy all the way down to the power line. the whole creek will prolly be muddy in a couple of days, Main river is red mud. I saw very little bait and almost no birds today. Maybe things will improve shortly
