Longlining Questions?

Just wanted to share a set up option with everyone. I long line with twelve rods now. I have (2) four rod Driftmasters on the back of my boat with (2) two rod Driftmasters perpendicular to the four rod holders so it almost looks like a half of a square. I use (8) ten foot rods on the four rod holders and a 14 & 18 on the two rod holders. Using the same length rods directly out of the back is nice because if you catch a fish on one of the middle rods, you can move the other rods down to the rack. Now when you cast back out, you have plenty of space between the 14's and 10's that you don't have to worry about getting lines crossed. I know some of you use rods off the front but that makes it to hard to make sharp turns. I don't have a problem getting lines tangled making a pretty sharp turn. May be useful to some of you.

I use the same basic set up with the only difference being I use four 8 footers out the back near the motor, four 10's, also out the back, a 12 and 14 out the side. This is not my boat, but the set up is quite similar.

My set up is the same as ink has pictured. Even says ranger at the bottom of my windshield. (Copycats) only difference for me is I use 6ft - 16 ft rods in 2ft increments. I like it that way because I can turn on a dime

I used to use the 2ft increments but didn't like trying to not tangle lines after I caught a fish. Easier to slide them towards the middle and the gap between my 14fter is wide enough for no worry casting.

Yea, it's my boat Ray. Not pictured are the 14'ers I have one on each side now making my set up 14 trolling rods. If someone fishes with me they can fish 6 short rods off the back and I'll fish 6 long rods off the front holders.

Huh, never seen much of a problem casting into a tangle with the 2ft spacing. The jigs that are in the water are already at depth and the fresh one you cast stays above them long enough for the speed of the boat to put it in place (as long as you are somewhat close). If you are just starting your pull and casting all out at the same time then start from the motor and work your way out
