Default A nice day on the Hill

Well, I didn't forget my camera or clicker today. Me and my two nephews left out early this morning eager to fish together. Got to the ramp right before daylight and some old geezer was parked on the ramp readying for his trip. . Well after we helped Butch get launched we went up the creek. It started out beautiful. We put 36 on the clicker before the bite slowed down a bit when the sun got to feeling a little hot (which was around 8:00). We were pulling 1 mph in only 6-12 FOW pulling jigs about 4 foot on the light ones and 6-8 foot on the ones rigged heavier. Best color was red/black, but all caught fish. Didn't catch any real big ones (3 or 4 11-inch fish), but didn't catch a lot of real small ones either. After the shallow bite slowed, we moved out to the mouth and pulled deep in 14FOW, but only had a couple. So...we reeled in and went to try the perch hole. We didn't do good and it was getting hot. When we saw Butch heading in, we followed him. Always good to see CDC friends on the water and chew the fat a little. This was a very nice morning. Kept 20 to eat for lunch tomorrow. Barry, sorry about tying up the ramp getting the boat ready to launch. From my last few outings I just thought i'd have the whole lake to myself again this morning so I didnt bother unstrapping until I got backed down near the water.:rolleyesRofl

The nephews looks like they enjoyed themselves today. Congrats on getting them on some fish. I know they enjoyed the trip as well as you did being with them.Thumbs Up I see mthey even let you catch a few too. Cant say as I blame 'em though cause at the ramp I wasnt even suire if you'd had enough coffee.

I hope you scaled a few of them fish to fry whole. I'm cooking up a batch of bone-in fish for myself in a little while. You KNOW how good those buggers are when you take the time to scale 'em.Thumbs Up

Good seeing you guys again this morning. Hate we got our wires crossed but when I left you guys I had to do some checking around to find some fish cause there werent anything where I initlially planned on fishing. But I figured you woulda knew where I went when you didnt see me down river anywhere.

Congrats on getting out with your nephews and getting your line stretched a few times. The lake looks slick witch makes it enjoyable though it was quite warm. Thanks for sharing the trip with us!

Butch, when I didn' see you in the river I figured where you were headed. We tried out in the mouth of the creek, but didn't do to good. There were MILLIONS of some sort of insect/bloom/grass shrimp on top of the water there. Couldn't quite figure what they were. I scaled most of what we kept and they will be enjoyed by the family (the whole ones by me and Brad) tomorrow for lunch. It was good to finally see you on the lake today. I didn't have to yell at Jonathan anymore this morning. I do it half way to aggravate them and half-way cause I am not naturally real patient, even with myself. (That's what leads to broken anchor lights, too.) I really do enjoy both of my nephews and I know they really like heading into the woods or on the water with their grouchy old uncle. We have a LOT of laughs, too. This morning Jonathan kept insisting a noodle that looked like it had been in the water for a year had a fish on it. I told him he was crazy. As still as the water was, it would be making ripples. Well, about 15 minutes later I "accidentally" hung the noodle with my longest rod. Well, when I went to reel it in, the big gar attached to the other end took off. We got noodle, gar, and all to the boat and we cut him loose. By the looks of the line and hook, he had been on that thing for a week or more. I don't know how he survived the heat. Both "J" and Nate got a BIG laugh out of that. We probably should have stayed on the upper end, but the bite slowed down quite a bit after 8:00 and I thought we might do better in deeper water. Just didn't mark or catch many out there. I was just joking about the ramp. I didn't mind a bit and we still got out there right at the crack of day. I didn't find the perch at all today (caught 1), which was a little puzzling as they had been there on the 4th.

Bearclaw, my uncles REALLY took a lot of time with me, too. One of them taught me everything I know about turkey hunting and, when he had his health, was as poisonous to turkeys as anybody around. Another of my uncles took a LOT of time with me deer hunting. Of course, they yelled at me a few times, too, all in good-nature. I am so very thankful for family and some of the most precious memories of mine were either in the woods or on the water. It's a shame for many kids that's been replaced by video games.
