Default Hill 3/06/10 late nite stalk

Went to hill in late afternoon after working 12 hours fish in near plum branch for a night stalk due to work all weekend. I was in water at 7 and stayed till 1030 pm.I put out lights and rods by 715. I was looking around the lights but no bait at 730 and had only 1 big yellow perch in boat then all the rods where bending down .There was a huge school of yellow perch under the boat. Most of the fish where 13 to 16 long.By 9 I had 18 yellow perch and one crappie in boat. I still had no bait around the lights.then the yellow perch stopped biting for a little while.I final started catching a couple of crappie they where big fat ones.By 1030 I had 18 big yellow perch and 12 crappie in cooler pull up poles and head home due to having to work this weekend. That 4 in morning comes early but least i got see some rods bending and have a fish fry tonight. You guys see now how addicting that longing can get when the fish are biting

Longlining :D I owe you a big thanks!! It is a great way to fish and FUN.
Sounds like you got the nightstalking going too!!! I know the yellows were fun to catch. I got into them once at Hester's Bottom and caught some of those pounds or over fish. Good to hear you got some good crappie to go along with the perch. Going to be a good meal

I've never caught more than one or two yellow perch at a time that was big enough to keep so I've never ate any. But they say theyre GREAT. Congrats on getting your rods pulled last night. Catching fish is always fun, no matter what time of the day or night it is.

Wow. longliner..You just got a way with these Hill fish! A 16 yellow perch is a monster! I usually have to stack four of those things end to end to get 16 inches! :D

How deep were you fishing, and were you back in a cove or in open water? I'm thinking of trying the night bite once it stops droppin' to 20 degrees!

Guys, if you want to try and catch yellow perch try this. Take a 15' piece of silver garland (like used on a Christmas tree) and when you start dropping your anchor tie one end of the garland to the rope. Run the rope down and tie the garland off at the 15' make. The garland will move in the water and attract the yellow perch. This works when they are schooling. Just a little tip to try.

Ofishlbizzness, I'm smellin' a rat here. Stumpy is being a little too forthcoming with all the "hot tips". I think he's just trying to confuse us before the big crappie fest. While we're putting Christmas tinsel on our anchors or driving around trying to graph gold fish holding over spinach, he'll be catching slabs and grinnin' all the way to the 1st place trophy!
