Thread: 6a) never ever ask me to do a headliner.

It looked so promising. Easy peasy. Yeah not so much!!!



Look at this garbage. Unreal. So my daughter and I did the first half yesterday. I ran out of headliner glue so I do the second half today.

So the first half was not terrible. My side came out good, daughters side had a couple wrinkles. So I figure today I'll do the other half myself and take my time. Well that was a complete fail. My patience ran out and I got wrinkles everywhere. The glue stained through too. What a fiasco. Never ask me to do a headliner. I can rebuild a transmission but I can't glue up a headliner. Part of the problem was that the material I was using was kinda thin. Being floppy it stuck to itself real easy. That was a mistake. So now what. Here's my solution:



Cut the folds out. Now at least I only got stains and lines!!! Nothing dragging and no wrinkles. Good nuf for now. I can always redo it but I got bigger fish to fry.

You should have made the headliner decals! Guber….

I’ve seen worse. Like Buckeye said, stick some decals on it.

Rhino line it and be done with it.

Help after the fact is useless but to help you going forward only but Headliner material, foam backed. I use 3M Super Trim Adhesive in the Red spray can. I'm assuming the headliner core was rigid Styrofoam. After removing all the old form from the core you spray 2 good coats of glue and 1 light coat on the backing foam of the fabric itself. While still wet I use spring clamps to hold the fabric around a piece if 1in PVC pipe on each side of the backing long ways. With help holding the fabric right over the top I gently press in the center first slowly working without stretching outward till in smooth to the edges. Working wet on wet repositioning is possible within reason.

I should add you only want to make contact with the foam backing on the headliner fabric only. Too much pressure and its possible for glue to make it thru the foam backing to the fabric showing on the surface.
