Why I use Side, Down, and 2d imaging

Could you do me a favor the next time your out? I would love to see a comparison image of say the tree/brush and stump while you are scanning and then anchored up fishing the structure.
I was always irritated at why I could not get the images that a lot of other folks were able to achieve......UNTIL I realized that most of their images were while the boat was traveling at speeds greater than what you would fish that same structure at. Most everyone shares the image but not the useful info as such, you however shared screen shots from your unit...so thank you!
I can understand that on SI but it puzzles me on DI, I would think the image would be just as clear anchored as moving .9-1.5mph.
I just sold a tritoon that I had rigged up with G2N SI & DI bow and console, I could scan at 12 mph and get great images with SI and figure it would be even better if the screen would keep up matching the speed!! Still tho, to be able to side scan at that speed and have crystal clear images I was amazed but the minute I turned around to fish what I found, anchored the images were distorted.

Your side and down images both will always be distorted if you are sitting still. A fish, a tree branch, or anything else that you mark will just show as a solid line if your boat is not moving. Now at times it will look different if you are sitting still and a fish swims through the area covered by your transducer beam.

On the bow of my boat I use a Garmin Livescope. It uses a different technology than side or down imaging. With Livescope you don't need to be moving to get clear images of fish and brush.

So Roy, to recap. You're saying i should have map, DI and 2d on same screen when i have just been using a map?
12" gen 2 should be able to pull it off.

Yes most of my shots come from my HB Helix gen 2 mega units. I have both a 10 and 12 inch units at the console.
What works best for me is .....
On the 10" unit, when I running down the lake I use a split screen with mapping and 2d. When I'm searching and scanning I use a 3 way split screen with mapping, 2d, and DI.
On my 12" unit I mainly keep it on side imaging set between 60 to 70 feet per side. I have found hundreds of brushpiles this way. Its what MY eyes are trained to see. When I'm running down the lake I often put this unit to sleep.

When I am searching for fish using SI I will speed up my scroll speed as this will elongate the fish making them easier to see. As I am not looking for a pretty picture just fish it works for me. Once I find what I think are fish then I will swing around bring my scroll speed back down and take a better look.

I keep my scroll speed a little high. Usually boat speed is about 3 to 4 mph, my scroll speed is usually around 6.
