So in this picture the tree in the center should be right under the boat correct, Since it split it in half? However if i move the cursor more to the left headed to the base of the tree its going to tell me its 20 feet away to the left of the boat...what if i move it 3 feet further past the base of the tree? Is it now 23 feet away from the boat or 3? this is the one thing about side scan that has always confused me....some one help me out

Correct ... Targets directly under the boat will show in both left SI and right SI ...

Distance to targets in SI (out to the side) is calculated as "slant range" to targets ... (that geometry Pythagorean thing) ...

I see so in this picture the blue spot i made is not 40 feet horizontal from transducer, you have to take water depth into consideration ...is that correct? It would be 44.5 ft horizontally from the boat

    Default depth value

one part of the screen shows a depth of 19.4 ft and below that number is the 22.1 ft depth. which depth reading is the real depth under the boat. that confuses me.

    My apologies ...

I see I answered his question kinda using the wrong digital depth ... (I didn't notice his cursor was active) ...

The actual depth at the boat is 19.4 as indicated at the top left of the screen ...

The water depth at the active cursor is 22.4 ...

Remember as it's drawing the tree at the top of the screen is when it under the boat.
