oh sorry, they make a 73 sv with chirp and without, the one without has maps, the one with chirp does....just was curious what would be the better. I already have one that has dv with maps , I was gonna move it to my console and put sv on trolling motor.
The CHIRP models (73 and 93) are Panoptix compatible ...
Ya never know what you might want to add in the future ...

I don't think there is a best really, just have to decide what the best fit is for you. Although the Garmin mapping isn't great on my home lake I still wouldn't buy a unit without mapping personally. I can't comment on the Chirp vs non-chirp units, haven't run the non-chirp. I do run the the 2d some in Chirp and some in fixed frequency on my units though, still not sure which I like better or if I can really tell the difference.
I guess I feel like the best all around value from Garmin is in the Echomap Chirp series because I feel it offers more features for a small price difference without getting into the price level of any of the top end models from Garmin,Lowrance, or Humminbird.
I bought the Chirp 93sv off eBay New for $740. For a 9" side vu unit you can't beat it for the price. I think the 2D is one of the best on the market. I think the down vu is great too. So far, I'm still working with the side vu. I use it to find cover and brushpiles and less for trying to spot individual fish, and for that it is wonderful. If you rank the high end bird and lowrance birds at a 10 then I would say the Garmin is a 9. So you can decide if that one point is worth the extra money.
