I agree 100% with Rickie, genec on the 2d, DI, as I have fished 1000's of BP. The only thing that's better is if you install a 360TM.

I have just started fishing brush piles. I find the bp's with side imaging, mark them and then troll to them using 2D. I know I'm staying on top of them because I can see the clutter of the bp and baitfish on the screen, and I catch fish. My question is how do I dial in my 2D settings to get a clear image sitting still. I get a decent picture moving but just clutter sitting on top of the brush.Quote:

I am using a HB 899 at the console and a 859 at the bow. I use switch fire clear mode. I get an image like you posted while moving I'm just asking if I can get that good of an image while sitting on top of the brush pile. I usually keep the chart speed on about 4 but I have run it down and up. Maybe I need to try jigging mode? Also I usually use 200 kHz on the transducer built into my xi5 while sitting over a bp. I turn the sonar off on my console unit as well.Quote:

This is simply because -(as the boat travels over and past the brushplile) = the brushpile is not in the cone/ then the brushpile is in the cone/then the brushpile is not in the cone again ...

Conversely, sitting stationary over a brushpile is keeping the brushpile in the cone continuously ... which paints the brushpile across the entire horizontal area of the display - giving the mind's eye a visual that the brushpile has no beginning --- nor any end ...

It definately tells you the brushpile is in cone ... it just doesn't look like the pretty solitary brushpile in the 1st image above ...

BTW ... this image shows how removing the upper section of the water column (using the "Upper Range"" setting) effectively zooms and enlarges the structure on the display ...

I fished Lake Tholocco in a rented Bass Tracker this past Saturday and kept the unit in SI/DI split to troll the channel in the lake. It was very helpful in that I was able to keep the boat mostly in the channel. I could see bigger structure but certainly missed some stuff.
My settings were (200/83), Clear mode, Blue palette, lower range set to 30' (deepest part of the lake), SI /DI sensitivity set near max, Fish alarm off, and I can't remember the other settings.
After reading this thread, I think I will start using Sonar more often
Rickie is 100% correct I just couldn't find a screen shot where I was over BP for a longtime. GPS speed on my example was .2mph (chart speed 3), but I had slowly drifted over the BP. The 2D is history "right to left" so as Rickie stated it will fill the screen from the top of BP to the bottom depth if you can stay over it long enough.
justatrollin, I have a 958 DI on the bow with latest software (7.660) installed. It does not have a jigging mode like my 999 SI on the console. I assume because it was built as a DI model and does not need to prioritize SI. Rickie may know fore sure what the answer to that is.
If you have your RTS Window (Real Time Sonar) "ON" and set to "Narrow" you will know the instant you are at the BP (remember) everything left of the rightside is History. The RTS Window is like the old Flasher.
