    Default Shoot thru hull on aluminum boat


    I just purchased a new aluminum boat that I plan to use in some of the local creeks in my area and would like to know if you can use a shoot thru transducer on a aluminum boat? I am planning on using a hummingbird helix 5 unit,anybody who knows about this PLEASE HELP!!!

    The Pat answer to your question is no. With that being said, I have read reports of guys saying they had made it work with older 2d units. Don't know from my experience if that is true or how good the results were. A company called Airimar sells a ducer supposedly that will shot through Aluminum. There again I have seen conflicting reports on that also.

    Actually the company that makes the Alumaducer is Vexilar ...

    Aluma Ducer FAQ’s

    You would need to call Vexilar directly to make sure to receive the version with a HB cable collector end ...

    Keep in mind these are for 2d sonars, if you have a side imaging unit it won't work the transducer needs an unobstructed view to both sides. I'm not really sure about down imagining however. Not sure which helix you have just throwing it out there
