Default Humminbird 899 Not Turning On

Seeing if anyone can help with this issue:

Put on the water today, turned on my powered on my unit and everything was working just fine. As I started to get close to my brush to mar with GPS looked down and the unit was off. When I went got I checked with my voltage meter to make sure I had power and had 13 volts. Noticed on the screen you could see lines which means to me that the unit was trying to work but seems like it is locked up. Any suggestions?

Look for any corosion on the plug ends or bent pins. Might try taking power wire out of collector and plug straight into unit. Looks like low power from what I can see in the snapshot. Also pull fuse and check for corrosion and good contact especially if it is the glas tube type fuse. Sometimes enough power to make meter read but not enough to power up unit.

As Cray indicated, if you have a bad connection somewhere, the voltage may check fine when it is not under load but not be good when connected to the unit. The best way to check the voltage is to remove the power cord from the cable connector and plug it into the unit by itself ..... the check the voltage at the pins on the side of the plug when attempting to power up the unit.

Looks to me like a damaged unit. Display is not working.

Not related to the topic but which Fluke meter is that? I need a new one and like the looks of that one.

Took the unit up to Burtons Bait and Tackle and had Gary test it off of his battery leads he uses to upload GPS points for people coming in and out of his store, and had the same results. Looks like the issue is internal to the unit so I am shipping it back to Humminbird. Ill keep you guys posted for what they find out.

Fishfood it is a FLUKE 376 and will run you about 350.00.

My 798 did a very similar action. Sent it back to HB and they fixed it. Told me it was water damage. The only water mine ever saw was rain. I did notice a nice new yellow seal around the map card cover.

My 798 works fine now and as a 90 day warranty.

Ark crappie you hit the nail on the head, exact same thing they told me. The weekend before this happens we spent the night on the Missouri river and it rained on us all night. You would figure they could make something that would stand up too the elements a little better. These units are made too float, so why do they not have a seal around the sd card cover? I have a smaller humminbird unit in the front and that thing has a nice rubber seal on it and I have never had any issues with it. Guess I just can't fish in the rain anymore.
