    Default Lowrance HDS Settings

Am new to scanners and imagers and would love to hear from those with Lowrance Gen 2 or 3 scanners which settings they use in 2d, DI, and SI - and why they use those particular settings.

I mainly fish Lake Conway - shallow, and the Arkansas River below Murry Lock and Dam.

For the most part I run my touch units in auto. However for the side and down scan I normally set the range and contrast to manual, I like the contrast in the 55-65 range for the brown pallet. Also the shallower you are the less contrast you need and the less (side scan) range you can use.

My advice is to get out on the water and start changing things to see what appeals to you. If you get it to far out of whack just restore the factory defaults.

Only thing to be cautious with when resetting to factory defaults, unless it has changed, when you reset you loose your saved way points, trails etc. Always save them to an SD card to have as back up if it crashes or you have to reset.

That has changed and you won't loose any waypoint or saved item with the factory default reset only the hard reset. I would suggest saving your settings though as you won't have to set up your overlay date etc.

I was thinking of the hard reset, but I was afraid the reset to factory would erase them as well. Thanks for the update, I am still learning my HDS7 touch. The side scan is giving me the most issues. I have not been able to get the clarity that others have, nor the range out to the sides. Once I go more than 3X the depth I don't get much if any image. Need more time on the water to play with it.

You should run the freq on 455. Otherwise edges go black. 1-4 mph should give good images

Be aware that in softer bottoms the Lowrance units range is rather limited. On those I have owned and installed 60 feet is about it. It harder bottoms that will improve but Lowrance range has never consistently been what others can do.
