Deeper water is definitely challenging because the water column takes up so much of the screen space ...
In a deeper water situation it helps to determine what specific task one might be targeting at that specific time ...
*If looking for suspended fish close to the boat set Imaging frequency to 800kHz, SI Range to 10-15ft more than water depth (water depth 30ft = SI Range 45ft)... and adjust SI Sensitivity up to contrast the white dot echoes against the dark water column background (Contrast on Lowrance)(Gain on Garmin) ... And slow the boat down (or increase Chart speed) to elongate fish echoes where they will be easier to see ...
*If looking for fish relatively close to the boat set Imaging frequency to 800kHz, SI Range to 20-30ft more than water depth (water depth 30ft = SI Range 55ft) and adjust Sensitivity up/down to contrast white dot echoes against the darker bottom background (Contrast on Lowrance)(Gain on Garmin) ...and slow the boat down (or increase Chart speed) to elongate fish echoes where they will be easier to see ...
If looking for new structure set Imaging frequency to 455kHz, SI Range to 40-60ft more than water depth (water depth 30ft = SI Range 80ft) and adjust Sensitivity up/down to look for structure shadows (Contrast on Lowrance)(Gain on Garmin) ... And match boat speed to Chart speed (2-4mph on Lowrance because they don't have Chart speed adjustment) ...

Ft hanks for the help sounds and looks like I was going right over crappie just didn't know it my settings were all all the place compared to what I have read on here
When I am searching with my Hbird using SI I will keep my SI Enhance up on the screen, that way I can make immediate adjustments as bottom content changes from hard to soft to any where in between.
So do I ... So do I ...

Just curious looking at your SI shot in upper post it looks like your transducer is not level tilting more to the right washing out that side some. Was your boat listing towards the right side?
I have a weak left SI transmitter in my 1197 ... (I refuse to retire my 1197 until it dies) ...
It shows the same darker left side regardless if I'm running the HDSI, twin HDSI'S, Compact SI , LSS 1, or LSS 2 on my 1197 ...
This one is from LSS 2 on my 1197 ...

I have to run Sensitivity a little hot if I'm interested in what's on the left side ...and that washes out the right side some ...
