    Default 798 Ci HD

Put it on the boat this morning and noticed the GPS never connected. After about 5 minutes the screen got dim. Powered it down and let it sit. About 2 minutes later it comes on by itself.
I disconnected it and set it in my boat. Hooked it back up a hour or so later and it did the same thing. This time I could not power it down.
Anyone ever had that happen? Ideas?

GPS issues are sometimes the 1st sign of power related problems ...(Not to mention the screen going dim) ...

*Have the battery load tested ...
*Check the wiring connections for corrosion ... Including the fuse and fuse holder ...
*Is the wiring too small for the length of the circuit ...??
*Is there dedicated power wire to the unit ...or does the power go thru a panel or switch ...??

If possible, test the unit on someone else's quick attach base ...

Rickie I have it wired with 14 gauge wire. Beyond what came with the unit.
The power supply is my starting battery which also runs my aerator and up to this point I have not had any issues.
I used it yesterday and all was fine. This was sudden.
I will take the battery and have it tested and check the connectors and fuse. I didn't think of that.
One thing I did notice is that when I put the unit on the quick detach base, the unit comes on by itself before I can touch the power button. Once it is powered up, the power button does not function to power the unit down. Hopefully this is a connector issue.

I appreciate the response and ideas.

Inspect the connectors down inside the quick attach base ...

Sometimes the metal plate that holds the cable end connectors in place can get out of whack ...

Changed the connectors at the battery and checked the metal clips. There's no power at all to the unit now. It will not come on. I did notice some of the function keys were dimly lit for a few seconds.
As I took the unit off the quick detach base, I noticed a "rattle" in the area where the base connects into the unit. It may be the problem is on the inside.
I will pull all the wiring later today and check it and I'm changing the battery.

New battery and wires are all good. No breaks. Looks like a trip to Humminbird.

I don't know a single person up here close to me that I could cross test with. Wish I did. I'll give them a call.

Rickie, thanks for all your help. I finally got the unit on another base. Nothing. I'll be sending it to Humminbird in the next few days.

Did you happen to plug his unit into your base? Just to rule that out for your next unit.
