Default 597 ci hd di problem

Not sure if this is the thread for this question but the internal GPS has quit working on my unit. I bought this unit new
about three years ago and had problems with the depth and speed read out jumping around while moving with the out board. I did try it on a friends boat and same thing so I send it to Humminbird and they said the unit is fine. So I made do because it did ok at trolling speeds and I had a lot of way points saved and the GPS was fine. But now the GPS has stopped working! Called huminbird again and they wanted me to go to the satellite view but it would even do that just said gps disconnected? Now I'm looking a $ 250 to fix it!

I have always liked and bought hummingbird but this thing has put that to the test. Do you guys know of this problem and or how to get it fixed? thanks

Not sure, the lady at humminbird told me that they did update it when they had it. That was around two years ago so I would say not.

He really shouldn't have to, Gene. My Lowrance Elite 5 DSI has an internal GPS and I can get a dozen satellite signals on my unit ... sitting inside my home !!

When I use it out on the lake & head straight towards my waypoint marks ... it takes me right over whatever I have marked, and the DI starts picking up the image of that cover as soon as the boat icon comes in contact with the waypoint icon.

Besides that ... according to the HB website for that unit, it doesn't support an external GPS receiver

I believe that CrappiePappy is right in that the 597ci HD DI model does not support an external GPS Receiver. The only way to get this fixed Ray is to send it into Humminbird. But let's make sure that it is broke first as we have seen where a low power condition on a boat can cause the GPS Receiver not to work. If possible; test your 597ci HD DI unit on someone else’s boat that has a fully functioning Humminbird unit. Any model will do and you don’t have to be out on the water, just make sure that the boat is out in the open so it can receive the signals from the GPS satellites is all. If you can’t do that then check all electrical connections between the unit and the battery it powered from. No loose or corroded connections as these can rob power from the unit. Be sure to check the fuse, fuse holder and battery contacts as these are often overlooked. If none of that helps, your waypoints are not lost as you can always plug just the power cable in and export the waypoints with the unit in the Simulator mode.

No low power, all connections are in great shape and I have tried it on two of my friends boats as I stated earlier. This unit was been trouble from day one, so now I need to put $250 more dollars in it for repairs on top of $450 I paid for it? NOT GOOD.

If you have your waypoints backed up, reset to factory specs.

Restore Defaults in the HB units does not erase the waypoint library ...

But it's still a good idea to back the NAV data up to an external storage ...
