    Default Side imaging transducer

Hoping for some advice. Wanting to get a humminbird 899 or 999 si graph. I have a 16' aluminum V bottom and was wondering if I'd have problems mounting the transducer. They sound large and not sure about clearance with motor. Has anyone done this successfully? Any gotchas ?

The 899 unit gets packaged with the XNT-9-Si-180-T Compact Side imaging (CSi) transducer. This transducer needs about 4.5 inches of clearance between the motor and the transom for unblocked Si sonar to both sides.

The 999 units gets packaged with the XHS-9-HDSi-180-T Hi-Definition Side imaging (HDSi) transducer. This transducer needs 6.5 inches of clearance between the motor and the transom for unblocked Si sonar to both sides. Many install this transducer and trim the boat motor up when they are using the Si sonar since it gets the best results at slow speeds.

I have a 16 foot aluminum starcraft (old one) and there is 7.25 inches of clearence between the transom and the motor shaft. I also have an 899 and upgraded to hdsi transucer. Don't expect any issue when I mount it. The compact transducer that I have had before would obviously not be an issue with any application.

I have mine mounted on my 16' V hull jon boat using an aluminum bracket that I can attach and detach as needed. You should have no problem putting your ducer back there next to the motor. Just make sure you read what Greg posted about how many inches to have it away from motor. My HD is about 2" longer than my standard ducer but does not stick out too far to have motor block signal.

Thanks for the input it's been a big help. Trimming the motor up makes sense. There's close to 5" of clearance when down.
