I am mounting two transducers for my HDS touch 7, 1 for DI and SI and one for 2D. These pictures are the transom of my Tracker Aluminum boat. The tape you see is covering two sets of holes where previous transducers were mounted. The tape is an industrial tape developed by the Navy to seal underwater tanks, so it should be watertight.
My question is whether the proposed location of the mounting board I am holding is too close to the prop. You can see the drain plug to the left so imagine the prop is directly behind it. If this location is OK, which transducer should be closest to the center line, the LSS2 or the 2D. From what I read, they need to be fairly close together for the downscan overlay to work.
If I can mount it as I am holding it, I can work around the existing screws in the old mounts without having to countersink a space around them so the mounting board will sit flat on the transom. As shown, it is flat to the surface.
What are your thoughts on placing the LSS2 higher up on the transom so it only reads at slow speeds and rely on the 2D for speed readings, I am asking out of concern for hitting stumps or logs and breaking the LSS2.
Thanks for your input.
