Ska backs and any other experts on side imaging. I'm really thinking about getting one of these. Don't want anything bigger, not about the money , but more of what I plan to do with it. My 2 boats that I use , neither has a console. My "big" boat is an old 16' Bass Tracker that I gutted and built all aluminum floors and front deck with a tiller yamaha. My little boat is a Bass Hunter EX that I use in small state lakes and at Sardis during spawn. So I don't have room for a big unit right now. Hope to get a fancy glitter boat in the next few years, but not any time soon.
All that said what I thought about doing is mounting the 598 on my front deck with the ducer on my trolling motor. I search the forms on the 598 and seems it would fit what I'm after. Figure I could buy an extra mount and ducer and just swap it back and forth. I wouldn't use it to scan unless I was running the trolling motor anyway. What do you think?

no expert by any stretch of the word but get what best fits your needs and budget. The main thing is just take the time to learn what ever unit you do get. with crappie4me2 already running the unit and seeing some of the fish he's brought in, I'd say he is your POC.

I had a 587 ci di. It is more difficult to interpret what you are seeing with a smaller screen. Get what you like and learn the ins and outs of that unit. I bought a new Lowrance back in April and I am still trying to figure it out completely.
