They make special transducers for the trolling motor.
Update. I finished up this morning with the install. A word of caution, in addition to the RTV silicone in the groove, I used electrical tape and taped the transducer cable to the shaft. I would not recommend doing this, when you reinsert the shaft through the mount, it won't go, too tight. After I got everything back together, I used a pull tie to secure the cable to the shaft, top and bottom, then wrapped some electrical tape around the shaft to keep from pinching the cable. Just as a precaution. Now we'll see how it all works!!!

I would recommend the pole option if you just had to have SI up front. This is not what it is intended for. They meant for you to scout with SI and mark your spots then use 2d and Gps to go back to fish them. SI works best at speeds faster than most trolling motors move. When you turn your motor it's going to throw everything off in SI mode. I am considering a pole mount for DI purposes when fishing offshore structure, but I am happy with SI at the console. I would put the SI at the console and Ethernet to a unit up front to share waypoints. Idle through an area, mark your structure, then go back to fish your waypoints locating with your GPS and 2D Sonar. I have never liked a transducer on my trolling motor, you never can be weed less that way. I wasn't wild about US2 either.
I really like my side imaging up front especially with the down imaging of Lowrance. But yes one can work just fine. I like to get lazy and troll around looking for structure though and not have to get back to the console and start the motor every time I've learned myself. Especially following creek channels with the TM. But yes I got a pole too. I don't think I'd like it on the TM. What I like about it is you can just turn around or stop/back up with trolling motor if you find a place to fish, I've found I use it more up front, or just as much anyways. My pole is a bit of a hazard though I'll admit, it's not the strongest made one they make, one stump and it'll be gone. I'm just careful when I use it. But eventually it will get torn up. I really put it up there for DI but am finding I use the side imaging just as much or more for now anyways, until I get all my spots marked anyway. It's really nice to have up front to see whats down there and not just know there is some brush, but be able to see it and where the fish are on it.

I def want the SI up front as well as console but also want separate TD up front instead of Ethernet.
ordered a pole from mike at fishing specialties to day for my triton TR20.
I got the 36 inch model with breakaway bottom part by transducer for stumps and shallows etc.
also got the 15 inch plate for mounting on the rounded sides on Tritons as he recommended.
i think I am going to like it.
Uh Oh....I bet Bill I hear Bill coming......Grout, he was awfully condescending for some reason.
