Humminbird cable/transducer help

Hello all. Had an issue come up and hoping to get some help or answers. Last time out I noticed that the SI/DI wasn't working (meaning there were no down or side images at all). I started looking and found that the cable running to the transducer had exposed wires where the cable went through the hole in the transom......the protective cable coating had been rubbed off by the side of the transom hole. First question, is this fixable without buying a new cable/transducer? Two, if not, is the cable/transducer easy to replace, without breaking the bank. It's a 798 unit if that helps.

If you are good at splicing wires then it may be fixable. You just have to cut out the bad area and reconnect the same color wire to the same color wire. All connections should be soldered and individually sealed with the correct wire pairs being twisted back together and the foil (electrical noise) shielding replaced than the whole thing sealed from water intrusion.

Otherwise you need to look at replacing the transducer. The XNT-9-Si-180-T Compact Side imaging transducer was what was shipped with these units.

Everything Greg said. A good sealer once everything is done is Liquid Electrical tape. Also while working on it take a piece of rubber hose that will fit in the transom hole about 4 in long, split it and slip over the cable, insert in hole then put a bead of silicone around it to hold in place. That way it will protect your repair.
