I think the drawing is trying to show vertical beam size as well, but the drawing isn't good. The beam is much taller than it is wide, making it almost a slice as the video described.
I think Rees is probably right on the sensor used for direction...
Piezoes do not know direction...piezoes just vibrate...
Something has to tell the processor where to place the "pizza slice" on the display...
The cable steer foot pedal is "consistantly relative" to the direction the TM is pointing...thus...so is the direction the piezoes are pointing...
The sensor uses this "consistant relativity" of the foot-pedal/TM/piezoes to tell the processor where to place the "pizza slice" on the display...
I think..........

My guess would be the same technology that allows "left" and "right" SI beams not to interfere with each other....
1. They are not "crossing" each other...
2. Possibly alternate pinging...
3. Possibly filters
Another question is how is the SpotlightScan beams not interfering with the DownScan beam...??...(maybe same as above...)
Rickie
Yes i agree. I own and use the humminbird 360 so i can tell you from seeing for myself that it works great and i can tell from the pictures shown sofar from the spotlight that there is a concern about range.the pictures shown so far are only showing structure close or directly below the transducer.there needs to be some shots showing structure and fish out from the transducer to show how they will appear.for right now tbings look iffy to me
I don't put much stock in company released photos, been burnt before. The rubber will hit the road when regular guys like us start posting images and experiences with it. Time will tell.
here are my questions ,
do I need a new fish finder up front for this to work?
what about GPS up front?
how well will the DI be with the trolling motor moving the boat at a very slow speed?
I fish brush piles, thats about it.
Look at this picture.idont see how that its possible for the spotlight picture being the same as the 2d/di. In the 2d/di the boat is moving from deep to shallow water yet the spotlight appears to be in a constent dept.maybe im wrong but that how i interpet this picturehttp://www.wired2fish.com/lowrance-releases-new-spotlight-feature-and-sonarhub/
Left and Right SS is 180 degrees apart, facing opposite directions.
DS is 90 degrees from each SS crystal and folks have shown where there is interference.
This is 30 degrees apart. I'd think if you are getting interference with beams 90 degrees apart, you'd experience the same with beams 30 degrees apart.
