    Default Help

Im in the market for a new fish finder. I currently have a humminbird 597 hd di. Been nothing but problems since i bought it. When u get up to running speed it freezes up. Have to shut off and reboot everytime. Now all of a sudden it keeps jumping between 1ft and actual depth. 2d sonar and di show actual depth but the depth in upper left shows 1ft. Anyone know a fix to this? Besides that im in the market for a di/si unit. Lookin at possibly a humminbird 898. Anyone recommend this unit or something in the similar price range. Found a few around the $1200 price range. Thanks for the help

LOL...I knew you'd be posting pics.
My honest opinion is they are both good brands.
Some pic quality has to do with the water you're fishing. Way to many factors to figure in than just which mfg.
Some guys are looking for the perfect pic and will push buttons all day. Some guys get bored with the buttons and start to fish.

Are you running any other sonar at the same time...??

How and where is the xducer mounted...??

Can you post pix of the xducer install...??

Most often ... High speed depth reading problems are attributed to the inability to obtain clean bubble free water flowing across the face of the xducer..

Yes i do when trolling motor is down but its messing up when trolling with outboard as well. I have it on a 1860 with a 50hp outboard so it runs 30mph tops so speed isnt really the issue. Ill take a few pics tonight and post up how its mounted.

You can find the 998HD for less than 1300.00 right now. For the money difference I would get the 998 over 898.
