I would like to get the everyones opinion on a good color side scan unit with built in GPS that is not going to require me to try and get it financed by the local mafia.

Right now check Cabelas bargain cave saw a HDS 7 combo for under a grand. May be HDS1 but well worth the money.

Don't you have to buy the structure scan to get si on an hds?

Believe the touch series have the SS/DS inside the HU while the G1 and G2 are separate, have seen the SS box and ducer for less than $500 before used, can get the HU w/o SS and then add it when you find a set up for a good price.

May have to buy the SS transduce separately on the touch tho to get the SS function.

Actually you don't need to call them for price, look in the sponsor's section. Brand new 1198 for less than $2000. BBG and Shut Up and Fish selling them at about the same price.

Just checked and they have pulled the 7 must have sold out. They have the 5 with structure scan package and they have the 598 SI on sale also. I own a bird 998 but if I was wanting to save some money and going with smaller screen the Low HDS5 is the way I would go.

How would that be saving money? I don't think I have ever seen a new 5 with ss for less than 1200. HB on the other hand can be had in a 5 inch screen for less than 900

BBG has the Insight 5 bundle, SS included for $1039. They also have a flat shipping rate of $8.95. A lot of these stores that have great prices will rip you on shipping to make their money.

BBG Marine has the HDS 7 gen 2 combo (Structure Scan included) with Insight mapping for $1350. Brian is a great guy do deal with, I highly recommend him no matter what brand you buy.

I would buy the biggest screen I could afford. My first HDS was a 5 and I can tell you it's hard to make out the details of side scan on that small screen. The 7 is way better and I really like my 8. That being said, when I find the right deal I will have a Gen 2 HDS 10 in place of one of my 8s.

Don't get caught up in the brand pi$$ing match, buy what you like and works best for your $$. There are good people on here that will help you with either.
