Default 998C SI Hard To See

I have a 998C. I am having a real hard time seeing the screen. I have put one of Raptor hoods on it. Still not a lot of help. Does anyone have any ideas? Can it be sent back to humminbird and led lighting put in it? I guess that question would be for Gregg. I was interested in a 360 but not worth it if I can't see what I have now.

    Thanks

Are you using polarized sunglasses? Sometimes this causes problems. Otherwise, changing the color scheme to one of the amber colors helps as well as adjusting the monitor out of direct sunlight.

That stinks. I wouldn't be on the water without polarized glasses. While most claimed it wasn't an issue, HB released a new model 998 this year with a different backlit screen that is supposed to correct this issue.

I wouldn't be on the water with a unit that couldn't side scan more than 50 feet. While most claim is isn't an issue, Lowrance released a new model transducer that is supposed to correct this issue.

I thought it was a good thing they did with the new 998's, and it was about time. Wanna talk HB 360 and updates? Some claim that HB quadruple checks everything they do. Apparently that isn't true when it comes to software updates and the release of the 360's that are failing every day.

I have but can't use polarized sunglasses with this HB. It is not a problem with my HDS. I really like the HB setup on the terrova but the problem seeing the screen is the reason I got the HDS instead of buying a new HB for the back. I have tried different colors but will keep trying. Thanks

I'm not sure how your setup is but my unit is 3ft from me at all times...

I have found that my screen is easier to discern by wearing a dark or black shirt...and then adjusting the angle of the unit so that I can see my dark shirt in the screen...

I've also experimented with the "Inverse" SI palette with good results....especially when looking for stakebeds...

Stakebeds really "pop out" on the Inverse palette...

Good morning dallman, I was having the same problem, and like you I had the longest ram I could buy with no help. So I built one longer. Using a stainless steel base that is used for installing rails on boats, I can't remember what degree I bought now, but got a piece of stainless steel tubing and plate and drilled it to fit the base. I can swivel the unit and with the tilt of the unit I can eliminate any and all glare on the unit. I have to wear no-line trifocal glasses so I really had a problem. This may help.
