I think both have their ups and downs. I remain neutral in this conversation.

I am buying Hb998c monday from BBG. I prefer HB espc. cause i am also going to get Terrova i-pilot and link and they seam easy to learn.

Went with my buddy to BPS yesterday and he bought MK V2 TM and Lowrance X4/ Elite. i thought the pic on the X4 floor display model was super.

It is whatever a person prefers. I have had both brands through the years.

I am actually neutral as well and have nothing against either unit. I have owned both brands (currently do not have any Lows) used them to catch to many fish to count. Dunc, the pro staff issue is on both sides and I think it is not sales oriented issue it is like I described a little scramble of SW that pros seem to get far less often and they are not experiencing the problem. As for Fishton creating video not that important to me. I really do not think either brand has an overwhelming advantage over the other

On the ease of use for either read the manual and they are not hard. It will be a rare person who's intuition matches both user interfaces.

The OP asked why is there more posts about HBs than Lows and bottom line answer from me is that I believe HB owners will speak up more than Low owners. Not that there are more issues with HB. 360 delays and issues are debacle. The update issue was deplorable.

HB was first with SI/DI, and I think this helped them pick up market share. Plus, Lowrance had a couple of QC problems that overwhelmed their customer service. They have come back strong, and the new Touch units are really nice.

I went with HB for a couple of reasons. A) features: I could get a DI unit that had GPS and 2D on it....Lowrance doesn't do that except on the elite 7. B) price: and this is a BIG factor. I didn't have to drop 700 bucks to get the 3 features I was looking for with HB like I would have had to with Lowrance. I will say that Lowrance makes so good electronics but features cost you more....with HB they are all in one rigs.

Both companies make good deprh finders, no arguments there. My preference is Lowrance, for me the features worked for what I do. I really don't get the price argument though. My boat had two HDS 8s, one 7 (bought used) and a LSS-1 and a 2. Both HDS 8 were bought new from BBG Marine, the first one was $1530 to my door and I gave $375 to my door for a new in the box LSS-1 from a sporting goods in E. KY., so I have $1905 in the first set up. The second one I bought after the Gen-2s came out was $1458 (rebate) to my door and the LSS-2 was new for $400 shipped, $1858 in that. So just out of curosity how much cheaper would've the top of the line 8" HB unit been?

Price is irrelevant to want or gotta have.
