assuming the fish are coming out of the brushpile towards you, you might have the ability to see them. There could be 100 2lb crappie on the other side of that pile, and you'd never see them. 360 will work the same as SI, it can't see through objects.
HB and LOW both have and continue to sell DI only and 2D. That isn't going to change. I'm awaiting information and pics from real users, then we'll have actual information. I sure as heck hope it's worth the money, or there will be some upset folks.
I fully understand the concept, I still see it being more useful while your on the tm fishing, not idling around searching though.
Kosmo. Can the boat icon be moved to the bottom of the screen and only show the 180* in front of the boat or is it fixed to the center of the screen? It looks like a square screen would better suited for the 360 than the rectangular one, which is great for SI.
Rickies link answered my question.
TM mounting of the 360 might not even be necessary...
With the radius range of the sweep..you would only lose the "length of the boat" in the forward arc of the sweep while the 360 is mounted on the transom...
And it can be controlled from the HB head unit "or" the 360 unit itself...
So the user could be on the front deck, control the 360 from the head unit, search and fish with 360 at the same time...

redge, theres a built in alarm system that the users sets to the speed of the boat, that he chooses that will go off when the boat reaches that predetermined speed.also ive heard were some people are worried about the transducer being down in the water to far. it only has to be lowered far enough down to have a clear view in the dirrection that you want to view. what im saying is, for example ,if you were going to be casting from the right side off the bow of the boat theres really no need than to lower the transducer more than just under the water
First we will have to determine if this 360° Xducer can be functionally operated independently from the deployment mount...or if the mount provides more function than just deploying the Xducer into the water...
I have my own xducer deployment system already...

http://i826.photobucket.c[IMG]http:/...psab4bd3d8.png]i got to use the 360 for the first time today. the unit that im using has no transducer other than the the 360. the only need for another transducer is to recieve the dept readings only. if humminbird would add that to the 360 it would be helpful. after only one time out with the 360 i dont think for me any how thats theres any reason to use di any more and only use the si on a limited basishttp://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps7c0ae3bd.png
Eye of the hurrycane.
Death of di. HA. I heard that "death cry" about vacuum tubes and vinyl records.
i not saying that everyone ,would feel the same way as me after using the 360 but for me, why would i want to go over structure with di to look then have to go back. then if i wanted to fish vertical all i could see is a blob. with 360 i never have to go over the structure while sitting still i can watch fish enter the structure and leave and just cast to them. if i want to fish vertical i can sit my boat strait over the top of structure and continue to see the individual limbs and see fish enter the structure and leave.:juggle "DUH":juggle
I agree it's new technology, but like others mentioned, the price will keep a lot of us away. I think SI/DI will still dominate for quite awhile. A lot of people still don't have SI/DI..lol, including myself. I have plans for them; I just haven't gotten them yet.
so far not so much I like the 360. but I am glad your using it and I hope you get lots of use out of it, yep times they are a changin. big time.
This is ridiculously dangerous! We need FF reform!
The blurriness is a bit like a hurricane, and at 50ft. What would 150 look like?
This can't be the death of SI, I'm still saving pennies.
2D, side scan and down scan are safe, when the price comes down and the technology gets better I'm sure they'll sell more. For now I wouldn't trade my SS/DS for one, it is a cool gadget though.
I'm about to buy a new unit. I've been using a 535tx, now I'm ready to step up to something really good. don't think I can go all the way right off but I'm definatly intrested in the 360. All that said what would be a good base unit for SI and DI that is expandable to the 360? I figure this time next year they"ll have the bugs and kinks worked out. I don't want to buy a cheaper unit that I'll be using the next 10 years and kick myself for not spending the extra money.I'm completly new to DI/SI.Any advise is gratly appreciated.
I'd suggest the 1198.
The 360 accessory addon only works with the HB SI series units 798ci HD Combo, 898c SI Combo, 898c HD SI Combo, 998c SI Combo, 998c HD SI Combo, 1198c SI Combo...
So that's going to cut your choices down considerably...

Thanks for the info Kosmo and I appreciate the reports. Also Rnvinc your always a wealth of knowledge!
I think there is no reason for DI to die - 360 gives nothing instead. Let us see how the tree, waved bottom with two stones below, and two fishes above, and also big stone in front will look on:
1) DI screen
2) 360 degree screen (boat stay still above tree)
3) 180 degree swing scan screen ( my own technick, boat stay still above tree as well)

One can see that DI screen shows everything: waved bottom with two sones, tree, two fishes above, but no big stone.
360 degree screen shows just one big stone (its shadow), and an ideal circle instead of waved bottom with two stones, and circle and semy-circle instead of tree and fish.
180 degree swing scan screen shows everything including big stone, but bottom line is slightely curved :)
That's a very good description Vik ....well done....
Your "swingscan" ...as you call it...is definitely very interesting.....
Are you using a Down imaging unit with 1 down image crystal on a certain degree angle from direct vertical to garner the images that you have posted...??
Rickie
Hey Vik, what does it look like on those images when all that is at the 2:00 position off the bow 75-100 feet from the boat?
Rickie,
yes, I posted the images using Down imaging unit with 1 down image crystal on a 40 degree angle from direct vertical:
http://www.crappie.com/crappie/fishi...b-346c-di.html
I think you will be seprised, but I used two DI transducers with that tiny unit Humminbird 385 ci DI as well, and had seen both sides in one ice hole:

http://s019.radikal.ru/i614/1301/c9/8173cf55ed8e.jpg
Is the 40° angle from direct verticle a critical measurement in this application or would you adjust that angle according to the water depth...??
Rickie
It depends on which frequencies I am going to use it: if it is 75 degree beam (455Hz) I set angle up to 40 degree, if it is 45 degree beam (800Hz) I set angle up to 25 degree. Also it depends on which images I am going to get: If I want to get SI as far as possible of boat - I increase angle, if I want to get more distinct DI - I decrease angle.
What is your mechanical system to get a good smooth, "non-jerking" sweep...??
Teflon on Teflon...?? Bearings...?? Gears...??
Rickie
Unfortunally none of them :(. One year ago, before publishing this, I suggested Humminbird to manufacture proper mechanism on that idea, but they said that they have a lot of their own ideas for 5 years ahead. I wrote the same to Lowrance then – they did not reply at all

If you're just creating the "sweep" by holding the cable...you're doing an amazing job of a fluid sweep...
You're images show no jumping or jerking at all...
I see you are in Alaska...is that your homeland...??
Rickie
Sorry, I am not in Alaska. I work in American Oil Company, and at the moment I am on rotation at Noth-East of Caspian Sea, and will return to my sonar in three weeks.
I was born in Russia, but live in Kazakhstan. You can see where my screenshots were taken by coordinates on them.
The legth of cable is 50 feet (20+30), but it works pretty stable and even.
