Here is three passes and the thread shows up better. This picture is showing how the threads are crossing right on top of the mark. To keep the cross centered it's important to keep equal passes on each side of the center, or first strand, as unequal sides and your cross will walk off center.Attachment 503466

There are now 5 each passes on the A,B axes as well as the C,D axes. A,B going left to right and the C,D axes going right to left. On these two axes I refer , mostly to my self, the north 2 and south 2. North being A and c and of coarse the south being B and D. Helps me keep it straight. Onward and upward. Not much done today. I did finish the middle yellow orange, though hard to see the difference without blowing up the picture. Hopefully tomorrow I will finish this wrap.
I will say it's easier to see any threads that aren't laying right with the lighted magnifier...
Also had a suggestion in the rods to use, which makes a bit more sense...instead of using a wooden dowel, which will and does grab the thread at times...use either an old piece of fishing rod or a piece of pvc pipe. Morning everyone, I have the cross wraps done. This I would say is a diamond pattern. I figured out what I am doing wrong for this not coming out as a chevron pattern. So next up is a chevron pattern...
It's a little hard to make out all three colors here. But blow up/enlarge the picture and you can see the suttle change in the first two colors. This is the raw thread, no color preserver or epoxy on yet...Attachment 503515Attachment 503516

In this picture if you enlarge it, you can make out an almost shadow to th darkest color just toward center of it. I think it could be a shade darker or two and it would show up better. Dave, I think your right on the black rod, or at least a dark colored rod. Over all, I'm happy with the way it turned out. All the threads are packed tightly together, with no spaces to show what's under the thread where it shouldn't.Attachment 503524

That all looks good Eric. I see you using sewing thread and I wonder if you’ll tie guides with it? Your patterns are spot on and the color transitions look good. I also notice that you use color preserver. While building a rod, color preserver does maintain the color brilliance but it also fills the void that the epoxy would soak through to adhere to the blank and make a super strong winding. Not all threads need preserver and they’re known as colorfast. Colors slightly vary from colorfast to nylon but they’re very close. With black it doesn’t matter and the nylon works very well. Fooling with some of the nylon threads and the epoxy coatings is kinda fun too. I’ve used a dark red nylon on one of my rods and it darkened even further and gave a rich looking color that shows well in sunlight but muted in inside lighting. You’re doing very well and clearly having fun doing it, and that’s the most important thing to me. I’ll look in again soon and see what you’ve come up with.
Thank you Tim for chiming in. I do value your opinion. From what I've read The 100% Polyester thread is super close to Rod tying thread in size A. It really hasn't given me no problems (except that black) on fuzziness like the All Purpose Sewing thread does. I'm using 100% Polyester Embroidery thread. I have some spools of Fuji thread Mudhole sent for the class, but that's not until 24-25 May, so it's out of the picture till then. And yes, I'm having great fun with it. Wishing I could devote more time to it, but honey does and appt. seem to pop up every time I think I have a bit of time. Oh well, that's how it goes.
