What happened or what's going to happen with the Snakehead Alert on Piney bay?
Say 'it ain't so!' First I've heard of it.
aj
Only Snakehead alert I've heard was in east Arkansas at Piney creek there. That is where the big Rotenone kill was done to kill off the pests.
nimrod is right...read it in the paper a while back
I talked to a G&F guy who was down there for the kill, and he said they did find a snakehead, but he doubted that the kill was too effective because the fish are just hard to kill.
The paper made it sound like it was a good kill. The news carried it as well and showed how they applied the chemicals by air, boat, atv, and a swamp buggy that goes on land and water. They stated that even if they did not kill all of them the population was small enough that it would be tough to reproduce in numbers. Who knows?
There is a very detailed article on the eradication on the fish and game website under fishing...
Thanks Alot guys.my mistake
We killed out Piney Creek near Brinkley. We put rotenone all over that drainage and feel like we did as best as we could given the conditions there. We are sure we didn't get them all but we feel the ones left are far enough apart that they will have a difficult time recovering.
Well, Nimrod,
You made me more at ease, fer sur. If those things ever get a foothold in our beautiful lakes we (and the crappie) are going to have 'hail' to pay.
Thanks for clearing that up for us all.
