..3 yrs till next election and it didn't hit Texas...
Yup, LA. has Democratic governor and senators. I'd start there.
Bush was all over himdself offering aid to his brother's state last year. Oh boy, he flew over yesterday to see the damage. Most of his predecessors, regardless of political party, would have already been on the ground seeing things first hand.
Hey, George, how about stop spending our financial future on the cesspool in the Middle East and take care of your own? - Roberta
I am going to shock fishinpox and Moose1 and defend Bush, but just this one time. He did fly over the area yesterday and wanted to stop and have a photo shoot on the ground to show how sympathic he was. I believe the Govenor and the Senator told him they didn't want him there and to keep his butt out of there until they get the survivors rescued first. They said that if he were to stop there they would have to stop the rescue attemps and provide security for the little chicken chit. They thought rescuing the survivors was more important at that time. Than him having a photo oppurtunty. I apologize for defending him and will have to go wash my mouth out now.
Wow guess who Bush is asking to come and help with the disaster in the south. 3 guesses and the first two don't count. He is asking Daddy Bush and President Clinton to come and help raise money for the relief fund to help the people hit by Katrina. I find this very funny. After the sunnami he had Daddy Bush and President Clinton to help get donations to help with the relief fund for over there and they got a lot of money for the people over there. Daddy bush made an attempt and then went about his business of kissing a$$ with the Saudi Oil Magnets. In the mean time President Clinton is still over there working with the people to see that they are taken care of and still getting donations for them.
For being such a bad President, Clinton is still admired by the whole world and very respected by most. He went to the President of Ruwanda and appologized for his feasco there, when he was President. Funny thing is Clinton is admired by their President. Bush is wise to ask for Clintons help because he is still one of the most powerful men in the world today. If Clinton asks any country for help it is almost assured that they will come to our ad. This is something that our President should be doing, but Bush knows it would be usless for him to ask the people that he made fun of and allienated from us.
I find it very reassuring that the one person that he picks to help America is the one person that the Republicans dispise the most, and claimed to be bad for America. This is the man that the Republicans Impeached if you don't remember.
bush is no better, and the impeachment thing was pure politics, but
he SHOULD have been impeached - what would happen to a military officer
if he had done what Clinton did - he (and anybody else) should be held to
the same standards as the military - or higher. It has been twenty-something
years since I was in the Air Force, but I believe adultery and lieing are still
grounds for severe discipline in the military. I know seperation of military and
elected officials is one of our founding principles, but I would love to see
Stormin' Norman as commander in chief, or Colin Powell either. Please, no more
about Clinton, or I'm gonna puke. He was/is a spineless jack-a** with about
as much morals as a stray dog. No, less. Bush is just as bad. Run them all
out of office, and start over. And if you think we should be sucking up to
the UN or other countries so they will come to our aid - I say screw 'em -
don't forget how Russia, France, Germany, etc. were sticking us in the back
with Saddam's regime. Were it not for them, the sanctions might have stood
a chance, and we might not be in this war to begin with.
How many days after 9/11 did Bush and Cheney hide like scared rabbits? He gets no respect from me because he has done nothing to earn it.
Dang it, I will not defend the present admin, but whoever was in office,
it does not take a genius to figure out when we are under attack, the
pres and vp go different ways, and to secure locations.
Where do you people get your information that the government isn't doing anything to help?
This is the most pathetic thread I have ever read.
How the heck do you get that I am for the patriot act, or anything else,
for that matter? Geez - Chiplifter is right, this is a waste of keystrokes,
But I am really tired of having to defend against these attacks - just because
I dissed your idol, I am everything from a racist, to a religeous fanatic, to
a Republican - none of the three am I, and you sure as heck don't know me.
. I am done here.
All Right Guys -
Everyone is entitled to there personal opinions but NO PERSONAL REFERENCES are to be made - this is an emotional subject and I have strong feelings too - but lets remember the victims in the Gulf States and quit bickering over politics - this is the OFF TOPIC BOARD and we can talk about anything we want but there will be no personnal attacks or or references towards anyone tolerated
The reason other countries like clinton is because he didnt have enough balls to stand up for us, they were in monicas mouth.
To mikeg and anyone else that thinks the US is not doing anything about this...
WHAT SENATOR JOHN GLENN SAID :
Things that make you think a little:
There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January.
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the
month of January. That's just one American city,
about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq.
When some claim that President Bush shouldn't
have started this war, state the following:
a. FDR led us into World War II.
b. Germany never attacked us; Japan did.
From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 112,500 per year.
c. Truman finishd that war and started one in Korea.
North Korea never attacked us.
From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ..
an average of 18,334 per year.
d. John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
Vietnam never attacked us.
e. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ..
an average of 5,800 per year.
f. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
Bosnia never attacked us.
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three
times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on
multiple occasions.
g. In the years since terrorists attacked us , President Bush
has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled
al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and North
Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who
slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
Those who are complaining
about how long the war is taking.
But ..
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno
to take the Branch Davidian compound.
That was a 51-day operation.
We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons
in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find
the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the
Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard
than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his
Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick
It took less time to take Iraq than it took
to count the votes in Florida!!!!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB!
The Military morale is high!
The biased media hopes we are too ignorant
to realize the facts
But Wait . there's more!
JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR)

Some people still don't understand why military personnel
do what they do for a living. This exchange between
Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum
is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive
impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one
man's explanation of why men and women in the armed
services do what they do for a living.
This IS a typical, though sad, example of what
some who have never served think of the military.
Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):
"How can you run for Senate
when you've never held a real job?"
Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):
"I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps.
I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions.
My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different
occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my
checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was
not a nine-to-five job, where I took my tie off to take the
daily cash receipts to the bank."
"I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day...
to a veteran's hospital and look those men ...
with their mangled bodies . in the eye, and tell THEM
they didn't hold a job!
You go with me to the Space Proram at NASA and go,
as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans
of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...
and you look those kids in the eye and tell them
that their DADS didn't hold a job.
You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in
Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends
buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch
those waving flags
You stand there, and you think about this nation,
and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job?
What about you?"
For those who don't remember ..
During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney
representing the Communist Party in the USA.
Now he's a Senator!

If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran.

I believe in a hand up not a hand out. theres really not a single reason why there shoud be a homeless person living in the U.S. Except that they wont get up and get out and work in some form of job. be it sweeping bathrooms out digging ditches, flipping burgers washing cars or counting M&M's at a factory.
Hey Lips you hit the nail on the head. Anyone that had worked their ass off got out because they had means to do just that. Along with the God given common since. But what the hell, Lets keep giving these idiots that are preventing the relief efforts, and looting items such as TV's, gun's, and shoes all we can give them. Thats now the american way! Lets put the blame where it lies. The people of this country have not come together & stood up for **** in 30 years. It's not just one persons fault..........Now read it and weep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Goverment that should be helping and was caught ill-prepared is the State and Municipal goverment. The link below shows how much thought was used prior to this event.
Not to mention that New Orleans has one of the highest crime rates and the largest murder rate of the states. Or one more and there are plenty, it is located 69 feet below sea level.
The federal goverment is helping but humanitarian operations are always tough, but even tougher because of the terrian or lack thereof.
