great guys, good weather, fair fishing

team Wasabi - Corker, team slabenomics - anchor man, solo fishman 78, solo Diecutter, Hit Anna approximately 7:00 a.m. out of Hunter's Landing on the pamunkey side of the lake .....Armed with jigs and micro minners yes so small that hard to hook and had little to no action due to their rediculious size ,,,,,,,,,small minnows seem to be small as I've ever used and that is what we found them every where from around home to all lake sales way way small.. we concentrated on docks and shore cover and grass beds...everyone catching fish but not many keeper size..fish were scattered and seemed to be of post spawn condition.....we would pick up two keepers here and there as we covered waters from plentiful creek to the upreaches of the pamunkey well past hunters.......

around noon met back at hunters for more bait me and anchor man went through the first 4 dozen + minners and got 4 more dozen micro's ,decided to run up the north anna side of the lake...we all fished coves and concentrated on docks and grass beds from just past the splits all the way to duck-n-the hole again few keepers here and there caught lots of fish just not much size and the keepers were thin as in eggless..........

we had water temps from 63* to 67* and a few stray showers none of wich were soaking rains until we were leaving....air temps varied as a few fronts moved through from jacket weather to needing sun screen............

I really enjoyed meeting every one and we definately put the pressure on as we covered the fished areas with a variety of presentations and techniques,,
would love to continue these type fishing efforts in the future on a variety of waters ........Once again great group of guys with good common interest ...

the biggest fish from my boat was 14" and me and anchor both had one ........along with about 15 keepers total .....

Yep, that about sums it up. Bite seemed slow with mostly smaller size fish coming from docks and bridges. Corker and I probably had 40 fish if ya include the few trash bass and catfish caught, biggest crappie going 13".

Didn't see a chubby female all day (except for back at Hunter Landing restaurant where 6 of em were sat down near us). This marks the 3rd or 4th tip I've made in the past 2 weeks with this same pattern of small fish and no females with eggs. Most fish for us came on jigs and we even struggled most of the day to get one on a minnow. Also marks the third trip in a row I have dropped a rod overboard and watched it sink out of sight. I've recovered 2 out of 3 though! :D

Boating pressure was light on Anna for a change. Heavy rain did show up late in the afternoon and kept us pinned under a bridge until 7 PM. We managed to keep catching fish although that good "rain bite" didn't materialize.

Thanks for the tour Slabie! It was good to meet both you and Vic. Wish we all could have spent more time yakkin it up. Robbie, DieCutter - good to see you fellers too. How did your day turn out?

Blake wish you were amongst us as well....with not fishing anna the last two years I had pattern issues due to lack of so I went to go to spots wich have produced over previous years ....anna is known though for its ever so changing patterns and one must stay on it to break the code so to say ....
with the bight slowing everywhere at this time I am thinking on a species change to satisfy my desire to hold a bent pole and hear that wonderful sound of line being released from the drag.............

I realy injoyed fishing with you Frank, you had a lot of good ideas to share. You know the lake for sure but you can't make the fish bite. You all have a good Sunday.

agree 100% the only thing we could not come up with between us was how to get a 1/100th oz. hook into a 1/16th oz. minner and make it lively

thanks Frank for the tour,,,wished i new all of this 2 weeks ago on my vacation ,,maybe would have gotten a few bigons,,,but did have fun anyway,,also thanks Robbie and Vic for your help reloading my boat ,call me if you want to hook up and fish,,,glad to see Corker and Wasbi too

I bought minnows in Virginia Beach on Friday and they were the smallest I've seen in a long time. What gives?

Glad to hear ya caught a few! But Frank the very best part is you got to spend some time with friends out on the water.:D And the look of trying to hook a small minnow (priceless):eek::D. Looks like we have about 2 more days of heavy rain here:mad: guess i,ll have to retrain or switch types of fish might try some of those big cats just for fun:cool:

"Fair" is a good description. Yesterday's bite was never aggressive--not even when it rained. If it hadn't been for the docks, the day would have been a bust. It's nice to be able to shoot docks when necessary, but I don't like fishing in someone's front yard. I'm uncomfortable in a place until I've cataloged a number of open water places--brush piles, dropoffs, & other structure.

Hunters Landing was an excellent launch point. We arrived early and the weather no doubt thinned the weekend crowd considerably, but a double ramp with docks on each side should handle a lot of boats smoothly. Parking was fine yesterday, but on a busy day, it could become a problem. It's very handy to have a bait/convenience store a short walk from the ramp.

Boat traffic wasn't a problem--for once, the weatherman did something useful.

The trip to/from Lake Anna ranges from unpleasant to dangerous. The highways from anywhere to the south SUCK. Rte. 522 is a two-land road, is crooked as a snake, and is heavily traveled at times. (Yesterday was a Saturday, but my last trip there was a week day & the flood of a.m. commuters created a steady stream of oncoming headlights. Leaving the lake, you face the same nice folks returning from work.) Rte. 33 is somewhat better, but is also 2-lane & heavily traveled. Last night's rain made both of these highways more treacherous than ever.

All things considered, the jury's still out on Lake Anna. I'll need to see a lot more action and quality fish before it becomes a go-to destination.

cork I took the boys through some back roads yesterday through louisa across the warm side of the lake and into hanover and popped out just above montpelier and cut off a good 18 20 miles

Cork, am I mistaken, I thought that was not a good lake to catch crappie.:confused:

During the past 3 years Anna produced 120 citations. This is the second highest (Buggs is first) total for the state. Buggs had twice as many, but it's four times as large.

anna is difficult ........I used to call it a indian resevoir (lake no catchem) but after 13 years of trial and error and figuring it out it became a go to 4 me had numorous citations and a 3.6 mounted from there but you must stay on it to figure it and it is late in the year as well.......some of the best docks are now covered and have a garage door down as well so they got somewhere to hide ....some of the deeper docks sport indoor lit fishing at night wich is cool they paid the price to be there......but I will never believe it's not a good crappie hole and I bet over half the citations it gives up are not reported..........I myself fried a many of them and know some boys that still do..It aint bout the paper to sum it up......

I found out later my brother didn't go to bed until 3am so no way I was getting him up:D It was good to see the rest of you guys again after taking a little break from fishing to get my life rearranged after the layoff. Fishing was fair but the company was great!! I really enjoyed the get together without the pressure of a money Pot.

Sorry I couldn't make it. My Beginners' Motorcycle Class ran a little long, and "Momma" picked me up right after class to take me to my Grand Daughter's soccer game (previously unknown & unscheduled). By the time we got back home, the rain was threatening, and my energy level was about to bottom out, so . . .:(

Anyway, glad to hear y'all had a good day of fellowship and fishin', as opposed to competition. This is the kind of fishin' I'm into. I like to fish for pleasure with no pressure from anything other than the fish! I find that sharing knowledge and insights with others of a like mind to be both enjoyable and rewarding.

I sincerely hope that, in the future, I can get the opportunity to meet each of you guys on this board, under similar circumstances. I look forward to sharing time with each of you on your "Home" waters, and hope to provide some valuable insights to the Lake Anna "Secret Code", as Frank put it! Lake Orange is reachable from my place w/o going past Anna. The reason I'm interested in Lake Orange is for the Walleyes! (Look closely at my new avatar). Being a Western PA native, I just can't pass up an opportunity to fish for Walleyes!:p I think it's in my blood! I'm also going to try the Lake Anna Walleye fishery, and see if I can get it to produce.

There are several other types / species of fishing I'm going to try (my Fishing "Bucket List", so to speak), like Stripers (Lake Anna, the James River and elsewhere), Rockfish (saltwater), L A R G E Catfish (James, Rappahannock & Potomac Rivers), Flounder, Croaker, Spot, Tautog, etc.

I've been a "Land-Locked" Fisherman for too long. Now that I've got a boat that can handle some bigger waters, I'm going to give them all a shot (sooner than later).:D

If only I was retired and independently wealthy!!:rolleyes: Oh well, another 10 years or so . . .

same arguement walleye in the lake fish the points in the upper reaches ....I am not trying to sell you the lake like vdgif is orange ,,,come on get up with us and get in on some croakers and flounders ,,,spot be here shortly pm me I put ya on them ,,,I put you on some crappie holes a month ago and you just rode around all day!!!! get that new wore off give me a shout ...the best way to learn a trolling motor is with a rod in hand.......
