Decal are on the left and 3 D on the right. What do you all think? Trying these out for the holographic affect. The jig in the upper left has glow in the dark eyes.
All the jigs are powder painted 1/32 # 8 hooks (Matzuo sickle and VMC round bend).

I like the 3D ones... but I'm a fisherman, not a fish - :D - don't know if it would matter to them or not? I like the idea of the glow eye on black tho. Nice jigs!
Question off the thread subject :o What coating do you use over your body thread? I have one of your jigs (swap #5) and have done very well with it on bluegill and still looks perfect after 30 or more fish. Thanks - AtticaFish
Got to say I believe AtticaFish has it right. The eyes are more for the fisherman than the fish. I mean there are lots of discussions about the head painted or not and there is a lot of evidence that head paint is more for the fisherman too.
I have a guide on my Pro Staff that uses more unpainted heads than painted ones. He catching lots of fish and make lots of customers happy.
If the special eyes make you happy and give you confidence then they are worth it. However if that is not the case then even painted eyes may be way more than needed.
Personally I think you should use what you feel good about and if that is with special eyes then so be it, but if that doesn't really make a difference in your concentration then it's not worth anything.
There was even an article I read where the bream were hitting the slpit shot used for weight more than the bait meant for them to hit.

I love eyes and believe they do make a difference,strictly my opinion of course.Both look great but I'd give an edge to the 3D eyes. How many minnows don't have eyes? The closer you can make a jig to the real thing the better.I love the head shape on those jigs as well.

The pupil on the flat decal eye appears to follow you plus I like the holographic background - one advantage over painting. The silhouette of the 3D eyes is pretty cool plus they are prismatic. They are small suckers – 1.5 mm. I do these faster than I can paint – still have to clear overcoat.
I like them both and have caught fish on both – going to add them into the arsenal. Out here, we catch a lot of big Bluegill with glow in the dark eyes.
Have also done the same jig head in the 1/16th/#6 hook, multi colored powder paint, 3D 2mm eyes.
The “coating” I’m using is a thinned down clear wet-n-wild (acrylic enamel) fingernail polish to penetrate the 3/0 flat thread. Add another clear coat with holographic glitter (can’t really see it in pics) then two coats of WNW no chip clear.
Glad the jig works for you – is that the one with glow pink head? That was hitting really good last Saturday.

Its .10/flat and .30/3D (ballpark) – yeah, cheaper to paint – not as pretty. New for 09 – no tag, yet - going to let one of the grandnieces have the honors on Saturday.
The Matzuo hooks are red (bad pic) and the VMC are bronze. Interesting idea on the copper…….
I like the the 3D as well. Looks like a walleye frye ready to be turned into dinner.
I like the 3d's but I make em to lose em anyway so I'd save the eyes for my bass lures. I've got a few crappie jigs with eyes but have never noticed any difference in catch rate with one over the other.

I use decal eyes and put some flexment on the backside of the eye. Lets ya move the eye around to get it jus right. Then cover with a coat of clear hard as nails polish. Caught over 100 crappie on 1 jig and the eyes are still attached.

The mold is a Chub Jig JCH-5-A (5 cavity 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4). Trimming the collar lightens them up - the two sizes I'm doing are closer to 1/48 and 1/24.
