The vacuum work just fine.

When I was a kid, Daddy would freeze them in waxed cardboard milk cartons, adding water. But now, these bags make the meat last longer in the freezer and taste better. The meat's much firmer than when frozen in water.
Every now and then I find a bag that won't keep its vacuum, but those are few and far between. I use the little hand vac pump to seal 'em up and it works--either at the campsite or at home. Who needs 150-dollar seal-a-meals?

...the thing about Iris' is that the bulbs can be broken into threes and shared with anyone. Particularly, my sister Linda asked me the other day if I had any of the out-of-the-ordinary iris' that Daddy cultured.
So, in the Fall, I'll dig and replant after breaking them apart, being careful not to separate the labeling from the base of the stalk.
I don't get too carried away with gardens or flowers because it starts getting into my fishing time! lol
Eventually the kids will come to appreciate them as they gain maturity and perhaps they will realize what gems they really are donchaknow.

That's exactly what he did. Every turkey/deer/fish I have ever caught or killed, I feel his impact on me.
Sharing that with family and friends is a small way to continue to honor him. Without him, I don't know how I would have turned out. He loved me immeasurably and always had time to take a baby boy fishin' or huntin'.
