Bad reports at Ross Barnett
Whats up with the rez. Tuesday, my best friend and I caught 3 total in 2 1/2 hours. Wednesday, wife and I got 1 fish and got a report from someone that fished from 5:30 at several places and only caught a couple. MAN, I have no idea what to do this afternoon to try and catch some.
thats the first good report I've had
I was kinda about to talk myself out of going after work this evening after all the bad reports I've been getting. I figured sawdust would be slamming about right now but with the wind and waves, guess it's got them spooked. How far back in were they fishing? I hit the pad stems and trolled around for over an hour wednesday for that 1 fish. lso went just into the grass as far as I could but with that 18 1/2 foot Nitro, I didn't make it to far. LOL Guess I geed a flat bottom boat to get way back in there
Man, I'm with you on that
Tired of all these Spawn only guys. Alot are not very considerate to us year round folks. We were at the cause way the other day and one came under the bridge and ran the length of the causeway by about 15 or so boats doing 15 MPH. Bad thing is they weren't but about 20 yards away from us all. Talk about a butthead. Wife and I tried to get in the grass the other day and with me having a fish/ski boat, I bottomed out before I cold get back in three where I wanted to. On smelling them out, do they smell like bream when the spawn? I thought I smelled Honeysuckle the other day in some wind.
This will be my first wummer
to be on them so this ought to be interesting. LOL I started around October really fishing year round and HOPE I can learn the summer patterns like I did the winter patterns. Know I've heard alot about the thermalclines or something like that. Where the oxygen is at is where they stay
Duck, this will be my first summer trying them
I am gonna try trolling them though. I picked up about a dozen 200 series cranks on Ebay the other day so I'll have some to try it with. I found a chart somewhere on here that shows the 100, 200 and 300 series bandits and how much line is let out and how deep they'll run at the line length so we'll see how that goes
I'm gonna TRY the trolling but
jig pole with 2 jigs 18 inches apart is mainly what I'm gonna try. Deep water around stumps for suspended fish. How deep they run usually in the summer? 10-12 or deeper. Know this winter I was getting them pretty good in 25-30 foot of water (Channel) and fishing from 12-18 feet deep
Paper, just follow me and do
just the opposite off what I do. LOL If this wind will lay down and cooperate, I'll show ya where to catch a mess anyways
we ended up with 6 or 8 in the boat
from 5 to dark 30. Darn things are biting so soft that you feel one bump and one bump only so you better be ready when they do bite. Lost several at the boat from not being able to get a good hook set on them. Couple of the fish were black males and I do mean jet black. My buddie did good yesterday. He's got lets say a REAL BAD temper and the last 2 trips, he's gotten hung up in the weeds and slammed his rod on my boat shattering it into pieces. I laid the law down yesterday and told him he wasn't going with me again if if broke another rod. He got hung on the rocks atleast 8-10 times and broke off but didn't break one rod, THANK GOD. I was gonna join up the the crappie club with him as a partner but he won't listen to me when I try and help him out. 6 trips and he's caught 5 fish to my no telling how many. He Wants to throw his line out 20-30 feet and let it drag behind the boat under a cork. Not bad if you're staying in a straight line but fishing around curves, rocks and pad stems, NO, you can't do that. Told him to just put them in the holders or better yet, in your hands and I'll put the boat on the fish. He won't listen so I'm gonna have to find me a partner for when I join up that can actually catch a few fish. Anyways, whats up with the light bites? I thought they'd be slamming it
