I have a Lowrance 522c on the dash and a Lowrance x47 on the bow. When I turn the x47 on I lose the sonar on the 522. It will still show the depth but not the bottom, structure or fish. It didn't always do this either. Any suggestions? Also my 522 will randomly shut off or freeze up for a few seconds and then return to normal. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have an LMS 520 and I noticed the other day that it would just freeze or go from say, 29 ft to 3 ft in CLEAR water, no baitballs no nuttin'. Then, it began to turn off all by itself and I would have to reactivate the unit.
Yesterday, it turned itself off a few times and then began to get all these vertical lines on the screen and then it just went black.
This morning I checked out my secondary switch and the hot wire to the the fuse board, the fuse itself--nuttin'.
As I was taking the unit off the mounting bracket, I found the problem. My five-month-old LMS 520 has a bunch of water INSIDE the unit itself.
I got to thinking; four days ago, I stayed out in a driving rain all day long and fished. I have a pontoon boat set up for fishing. I just put the top up and kept on fishing. No problem, right?
I reckon my new Lowrance is not so watertight after all. Tomorrow I have to take my boat into the dealer for a replacement of the minkota on-board charging system. They will be surprised when I hand them my unit with a glass of water sloshing around inside it. I hear Lowarance no longer makes the 520. So it will be interesting to see how they 'fix' my fine-and-dandy five-month-old unit. I hope I can just change it out at the dealer...because I don't look forward to dealing with Lowrance on service issues. They are as slow as Christmas about everything, since they have laid off so many workers. The ones they have left are actually PRODUCING units, and customer service has really suffered as a result. Every call to them is at least-- a 45-minute wait (on hold) before you finally get a real person.
I think I'm about ready to change brands. Hope you find the solution to your issues. Mine are under warranty (thank the Lord), even if it does take six weeks. <><

sounds to me like the sonar signals are getting crossed, so to speak. Try running only one at a time, that could make a difference.
labsnslabs, it sounds like you have a 'low voltage' problem. Check all the conections and make sure your battery is fully charged. You might even check the cells with a hydrometer & load test it. <*)}}}><

Thanks guys, I am going to do some trouble shooting this weekend.
Before you get too far into it, just take the unit off and shake it. Water ain't cool inside donchaknow. Next, I'd really look hard at the battery system. I had my on-board charger replaced this past week, but before I did, I had 'freeze up' or turning off issues when the voltage dropped too far.
Lowrance is replacing my unit. It's been gone a week and I have been fishing (basically) blind. It's a good thing the specks have been shallow. I surely hope to have my replacement unit within the next couple of weeks.

what it took mine to get back on a replacement for my 520C. just bought the GPS to go with it so Now I've got to figure out HOW to get that going
I bought a LMS 522 and about two weeks later I had the same problem... it just quit workin'. I had fished in the rain three or four times and it sounded like I was shakin' a milk jug there was so much water in it. I called Lowrance and they told me that it would be 4-6 weeks getting a new unit so I took mine back to the dealer and he order a new unit to replace mine (said that he would deal with the Lowrance return:D:D) It only took a week to get the new unit. I have fished with the new unit in the rain a couple of times and haven't "heard" any water shaking in it yet... they must have had a bunch of units go out with bad seals in them or something???Quote:

I bought a used 520c off ebay and have had it in the rain with no leakage yet.
I believe low voltage is the correct problem for the shutting off and black lines.
When not fishing, my unit has been in my garage, or in my truck so it doesn't get baked on the days I do not fish. I'm pretty sure that Lowrance will take care of any issues one way or another on the 520c regardless of it being a discontinued unit. I wish you luck!
I've had my 510c & 522c for about 3 years. Had a problem with antenna but THAT'S IT!!!! Some people get bad units,,, just check this board on HB's. Service has been excellent and timely. DMW1960, you'll be just find with your units. <*)}}}><
I GOT ONE OF THOSE BAGS FROM CABELAS THAT HOLDS BOTH UNITS, PLUS MY HAND HELD GPS UNIT. I TAKE THE MOUNTS AND THE UNITS OFF EACH TIME AT THE BOAT RAMP. AND THEN WHEN I GET HOME I BRING THEM IN AND MAKE SURE I OPEN THE BAG AND LET THEM DRY OUT IF NEEDED. I HOPE THIS HELPS KEEP THEM WORKING.Quote:

I had a problem with my 520c last summer. Minor problem, it quit beeping when I pushed the buttons although the menu was set to beep. I had a bad GPS module and talked to Linda about it. While she was getting the info to get me a replacement antenna, I mentioned the no beep problem, but told her I needed it for some tourneys and would contact her for repair after the season was over. She immediately dropped a loaner unit in the mail to me with a pre-paid mailer for my unit. They turned my unit around in about a week, but I didn't have to go without while they repaired it.

Well I had to call Lowrance again 47 min this time but at least I got to talk to the same lady and she sent me a shipping lable and a new 522c igps overnight but since this was on a Friday I got it the following Tuesday. Well I have it back on the boat and it seems to work ok...I haven't had it on the water yet but you better know it is going to have a baggie over it if it ever starts to rain. The folks were nice on the phone but I missed most of the crappie season this year. I hope it works as well as my first one did/does. If not Hummingbird or somebody else is going to have a new customer. I can't do this again and remain sane or in good humor.....brim
I've been doin' Lowrance products since the days of the Green Box portable flashers and have never had a problem until I got the 520. The fixed me up pronto and I don't expect any more issues with it.

Nobody asked but I'll offer this as a suggestion for those of you who like me fish in rainy wxr sometimes. I put a gallon size ziplock bag over my display unit and wiring connections on back. This seems to keep moisture from getting inside of mine and I can still use it in rain and see just fine.

lowrance quality has gone down in the last 4 years, but they had excellent customer service. used to you could call about a problem and you would have a new unit the next day. in the last 2 years their customer service has really gone down hill. now they rarely stock replacement units (have to wait for "shipment" from mexico), you are on the phone for a minimum of 45 minutes. I have had an HDS 8 for 2 months and have not been able to use it yet. As far as Linda Colt. She did respond to an email and said she would NOT let me down and resolve this issue. guess what? that was the last i heard from her.
I know the warranty is good for 18 months but I just don't want to have to go through the hassle anymore.Quote:

I caught the color bug and upgraded to the X510c. The 510 had lock up freezing issues in shallow water. After numerious attempts to fix this POS with Lowrance I cut my losses and bought a Vexilar Edge2.
I`m back to monochrome but also back to trouble free fishing.
Lowrance makes the nicest looking junk out there. Trouble is now days its just that JUNK! Its a shame because the Lowrance product looks nice on display.
My fear now is that Lowrance will go broke and leave us hanging with our money tied up in their inferior products.
