Thats a winner Skip!!! I need to practice the weaves
Now that is one I might tie! I really like the coloration and is one I wouldn't have put together without seeing it. Now where is that weave post? lol.
Really cool Skip. I've seen your jigs and wondered how you did that! Perfect colors for local lakes right now. I am going to practice. Thanks for the tip.
Skip,
Does it take you a little longer to tie that pattern? Very nice indeed!!
very nice skip
Just tried one with tinsel chenille. Looks okay, but had to check back on FAOL a couple times to look at instructions. The light color on the far side is actually wrapped the opposite way of the nearest color?? That is the hardest part for me. Front body goes away from you, far body comes toward you. Is this right??
WOW i need to know how to remove a hook from my lip cause that looks so good i ate it damn. ok i gatta practice to.
Joe
That's a really nice looking jig, very impressive tie Skip.
Skip... you gimme my jig back man! hahaha... looking good my friend!
I want to encourage everyone to check out Skip's website. After you buy some jigs, check out the recipes. I made his Crappie Cakes for dinner tonight with some slabs from Stockton Lake. AWESOME:D THE JIGS AREN'T BAD EITHER! :)
Thanks you all for the kind comments as I really appreciate it!
tnt, yes the food is good too and I am going to add more to that. I know I already said I would put the hot water cornbread on there and the soup. Just need a little time.

Nice jig haven't even tried to weave on tying my flies for fly fishing and now you got it over into the jigs.

Thats a good one Skip..
I tried the weave don't have enough practice YET!!!

Does look good, but also have a question. Any reason for the lighter color on top the jig? Maybe it's just me but I always try to put the lighter color on the bottom side, like most any real minnow.
I do wrap black/chart chennile together for a body and does look good, sorta verigated but not quite. If you twist 2 chenilles together tight enough, it comes out pretty good. Just seems like extra time to weave when you can get a simalar pattern. Maybe I'm just to lazy to weave, but I do know how to macramae a necklace for my daughter........:D
I already have the variegated in this color so why not just use that in place of twisting chenille? I did the weave because I wanted to. I like pushing my self to be better and learn more so I like trying out advanced fly tying techniques so here is one with more to come at some point as I don't think being satisfied with what I do is good enough, at least for me. So anything you see me do out of the ordinary is something I did for me. Sometime others want that too, but first it is me since I am the one that see's what I am aiming for.
Here is a pic of the variegate I have been using for several years...

As for the lighter color being on top or bottom, not either in this case as it is in the middle.
Anyway I would have it any different at all, except that I will add other color combo's to this line.

I like the difficult patterns. I really like the look of the stripes in the middle especially for some patterns I want to try and color combinations.
If you want to really work hard MikeB, I will show you how to do my crochets with the material I use. You know you are die hard when 20-25 minutes each is the normal for jigs I tie the most for my personal use.
I guess the vertical stripes is what throws me, I would rather have horz. Still trying to come up with a 2-toned (top dark and bottom light) pattern.
Only thing I dont like about the verigated is it takes on a pattern. If you twist the chenille, it seems you have more control where the patterns lay, and I like them to be random I guess. If you twist tighter, the pattern is more broken. Have some verigated that seems to put lines of color, like the RR you just posted, every time I use it.
Sorry, I know I'm getting off the subject of this thread, but isn't the point of verigated to be broken up colors? - Russ
Skip,
Eventually will a person be able to purchase the weave jigs from you?
If you want to tie pattern and know the different things to do this is a site you should be reading and looking at. Click on fly tying and then you can pick beginner, intermediate or advanced. One should practice some of the easier stuff before jumping into the harder things IMHO.

The enlarged instruction for Fly Crocheting
Them there is the instructions.
Skips is harder though. Too many steps where mine there only really 2. Making mine work on the other hand, might be a little tougher, will let you know after I figure out the tiger weave.
Good luck and may I suggest if you have looked at any of my jigs that you start with floss, silk or some other thread type stuff before trying to do it with any type of cord. It will be much easier to learn than trying to learn on Larva Lace.
Ya got my vote skippy":D "Beautiful Chief"!!!
