Other than using a GPS. How have other members marked there condos that you have spent time and money on without worrying that some Shmo will come over and take the Bouy or any other marking device???
I have dropped 8 of these puppies and was never able to fond them until this winter when I iced fished and used a camera to locate them. Now I have the idea of where they are at, How do I mark them?
10 pound weight with a cut "Floaty tube" bearly under the water?
other ideas?
If you physically mark them in any way, other people will see it and will fish your spot. Try to line up landmarks on the shore so that you can find each spot exactly. GPS doesn't really get you close enough.
Unless you don't mind putting up a sign that says fish here, I would not mark it with anything obvious. Around here, they use the rock in front of the tree, in front of a deadfall and a small rock that lines up with the roots, beer can nailed up on the bank, thumbtacks on the standing tree next to it, spray paint and my favorite,,,,,leaving just a little bit sticking up at low water....that explains why I have a gps and a saw in the boat at ALL times. I hope that I am the first to see it when the water goes down. I mark it and then cut it off below the water... which should have been done when it was put in. If you don't have a gps, I would drop a bouy directly in line with 2 trees or something and then put in line with it.
I had the same problem.... so I put out christmas, pvc condos & boo condos under bridges next to columns or between em.... also I find a stickup and put em around it.... that way you can tie up and you know exactly where they are.....
Dropping em in open water and using a GPS is hit and miss.....
Sooner or later somebody will see you catching fish at one of your locations but they dont know exactly what is down there....
So I have about 30 spots and dont stay at one over 3 - 5 min at one time... If I catch a few I move to the next one and come back later.....

Better learn to use your GPS, my little Etrex is on the money, eh condo .;) I have fished without a working depth finder a few times and had no trouble using my GPS only.:)Quote:

GPS is the only way to go. Every time we go out I just look at the GPS unit. When it says we're on top of the spot, I look up.....and there it is on the depth finder.....EVERY TIME.
Learn your equipment~~My little hand-held Garmin MAP76CsX will get me to within six feet of anywhere//that's an imaginary circle drawn around your boat that is six feet across. Now that's close enough.
If you still insist on no gps, do the best you can with local landmarks lined up or with existing trees and Trail Tacs and then employing a nylon line and about 8 ounces of lead on the end. The old timers found their their stuff by first lining up something on the bank to get them close, then they would lower the line and just drift around 'feeling' for the brush.
My Daddy caught many more fish than I have and the only electronics he ever saw was my old Lowrance Green Box flasher, about a year before he died.
Just save up and get yourliddleoself a GPS. The only things more important are your fishin' pole and your boat. <><

i have 2 lowrance 480's and they will put you right on em everytime you just need to learn North and South to turn instead of turning right or left towards your waypoint
So this will suffice you all think?
